Jackson Stepping Down

I'm afraid there are going to be some disappointed Clone fans when a replacement is found.

I can't envision an east coast guy taking the job without a Pennsylvania/Jersey connection. The talent pool in the Midwest is so small by comparison.

The logical question right now is whether ISU will give the incoming recruits a release. I assume they will.

The awkward spot right now is the pursuit. Current Head coaches in meaningful programs aren't coming to ISU.

ISU will be a several year fix.

This. I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that after Pollard finds out there's not much interest, especially with what he'll be willing to pay, that one of the Paulson is promoted and they go through all this again in about 5-7 years. Hate to say it, but I feel like that program is all but dead.

I'd have to agree and I said something similar to this well before this news came out. Fans on CF have made lists of who to go after and to be honest getting the majority of those candidates is just not realistic because of where they're at and what they have going on there.

I think the Paulsens are a big part of the problem. They can't point to Gadsen forever and they have been stalled in success at several of the heavier weights for a very long time.

Pollard has to clean house and start fresh. Is he willing to swallow hard and give Bono a chance?

The 3 most ideal choices would be Cody Sanderson, Chris Bono, and Casy Cunningham... In that order, IMHO.

Other interesting names include Damion Hahn, Jeff Jaggers, and Eric Guerrero.

I don't think it'll be any of these guys.

Whoever comes in does get an ok recruiting class, they do have Verk , Allar and Austin gomez coming in next year and those are all just about top 20 or top 30 type of kids

Wont be the PSU guys, even though your probably right. i think all the major ISU alums should be solicited, the wrestling world is better with ISU in the mix.

The problem is that the names that are being floated offline are none of the above (and maybe not accurate), which my annoymous, humble opinion is unfortunate.

At least one of those kids asked for a release weeks ago. He will let the rest go if requested.

I would bet a large sum of $$$ that the signed recruits will not ALL make it to Ames. I think it's logical to assume Allar stays in Minnesota and some of the others will end up somewhere else.

Most, if not the majority of schools, will give releases. From a public relations standpoint... ISU needs to do that.

I know I have said it several times, but now we will get to see it play out shortly. Is ISU the destination it once was to draw a better HC and will that HC be able to do at ISU what many believe should be done? I never said KJ was a great HC but I believed he was one of the better options ISU could get. The new HC will have a tough first year. Will he be able to convince the solid recruits to stay, get everyone to buy into his philosophy and hit the ground running in recruiting? Patience will be the key. If the new HC is capable of making ISU improve, it won't happen overnight. It could take a couple years for him to get the right guys into the lineup and develop them into winners.

I don't envy the new guy...................

I don't expect Iowa State to hit a home run with their hire, but maybe a strong double stretching into a triple wouldn't be so bad right now. I would think the kids they have signed would hold out until a new Coach is named, unless for some reason they're in love with Jackson, who will be around in an administrative role as it appears, so maybe that's the salve to keep some of the recruits happy that he'll still be around/accessible.

I think Pariano would be a good one to go after personally. Unless there is some disturbing news buried in the mud why he got let go at Northwestern, he did a pretty good job for them IMO. From a wrestling perspective it's a step up in every regard to Northwestern, and you won't have to fight admittance criteria like he has in the past. He's run a program already. I'd knock on his door for sure if I were them.

Bono is doing a good job at SDSU, but I wouldn't pick him to lead them back to the promise land. Cody Sanderson doesn't do much for me either, I wouldn't waste a phone call. I prefer a stronger Iowa State, and always have as I've stated many times. I hope they find someone that can return them to respectability, sooner rather than later. Good Luck Clone Wrestling Fans.

Pretty sure KJ is a well paid head coach in the college wrestling world. Probably not too 5 but top 10. Would be a hefty raise for most top assistants.

Anyone who doesn't think Bono would jump at the job is wrong, imho. His biggest beef was with KJ not JP.

Austin Gomez just asked for a release. And according to CF another asked for a release as well. Not sure who though.

I don't envy the new guy either, but this could be a great situation if the right guy is allowed to put in the time that it will take to get it going again(and of course be willing to do so himself). He would need that "time" so that if he happens to sign a top 20-30 P4P recruit or two in his first year of recruiting, that he will be allowed to redshirt the kid like he should.

I don't think anyone on here has said it will be easy, cause it won't. But it needs to happen and it can happen. Our sport has lost a lot of relevant programs over the past 20 years and we sure as hell don't need this historic program to die on the vine.

Like I said before, if we(Iowa) expect to compete with PSU over the long haul, we wont do it with the same recruits that ISU will be chasing, so I think we should all be pulling for this program to get going again.

Short of a "world" name like Jordan Burroughs coming to Ames(allowing top recruits to come), there is no real easy quick fix(it would remain to be seen if that itself would be a quick fix BTW).

I for one am really looking forward to seeing who they get and outside of one day a year will be pulling for the Clones to get it going again. Not because I like them(I don't), but because I love this sport and it is better off with a good ISU program than an irrelevant one(or none at all)

GO HAWKS!!
