Jackson Stepping Down

Pretty sure KJ is a well paid head coach in the college wrestling world. Probably not too 5 but top 10. Would be a hefty raise for most top assistants.

Anyone who doesn't think Bono would jump at the job is wrong, imho. His biggest beef was with KJ not JP.
He makes a good amount more than Pritzlaff and Perry. Definitely makes more than Popolizio. About a wash with Dresser.

Plus, even as much as ISU is down, it is still a program with great tradition in the Big 12. It is at least as big of a draw as Oklahoma and they got Roselli who Is a great coach.

The timing is tough for ISU, because they do have some great young wrestlers redshirting and on the way in. Just when it looked like KJ was turning around recruiting, his time runs out. I'm not big on hoping ISU again becomes a national power, but the timing of KJ's resignation is about as bad as it could possibly be for the sake of the future of ISU's program. It's kinda hard not to feel for them a bit.

Just an FYI that I found on another forum...someone tried reporting that Pollard had a "guy lined up".

Might be bs, but regardless what happens, this year's recruiting class, or signed recruits, is toast. Not sure how things work, and it's going to cause a few coaches a headache, but I would think the majority of the scholly $$$ is already allotted out for those already signed. If you get a top notch guy available... you find a way, I guess.

I think Pollard informed KJ he was looking last week and to keep mum which tells me that he has a guy and that they are going to release the name quickly. If not, then they were stupid for doing this before the NCAAs were done. If they are smart, they are able to do this to try and get the coach on board keeping recruits around.

I hope they get a good hire so I can go to some relevant Iowa-ISU duals in the future. Would rather see a strong ISU than a strong Minnesota.

Since the Gophs are content to field a lineup of in-State kids only, outside of Lizak, I'm not going to worry about them being strong anytime soon. The upside for them is the recruiting budget must have a pretty good bottom line because they seldom need a plane ticket to go see their targets. Just a hour car drive to the 'burbs.

A sweet little cult they have going around all those lakes.:p:p:p

BTW: Now I'll have to wait for one of the three stooges, aka Jammie/Grappler/MnRodent. to correct me.

I don't expect Iowa State to hit a home run with their hire, but maybe a strong double stretching into a triple wouldn't be so bad right now. I would think the kids they have signed would hold out until a new Coach is named, unless for some reason they're in love with Jackson, who will be around in an administrative role as it appears, so maybe that's the salve to keep some of the recruits happy that he'll still be around/accessible.

I think Pariano would be a good one to go after personally. Unless there is some disturbing news buried in the mud why he got let go at Northwestern, he did a pretty good job for them IMO. From a wrestling perspective it's a step up in every regard to Northwestern, and you won't have to fight admittance criteria like he has in the past. He's run a program already. I'd knock on his door for sure if I were them.

Bono is doing a good job at SDSU, but I wouldn't pick him to lead them back to the promise land. Cody Sanderson doesn't do much for me either, I wouldn't waste a phone call. I prefer a stronger Iowa State, and always have as I've stated many times. I hope they find someone that can return them to respectability, sooner rather than later. Good Luck Clone Wrestling Fans.

I would be absolutely shocked if Pariano gets a head coaching job anytime soon. He did do a hell of a job at northwestern though.

The Allar decommit hurts them but Gomez not so much. He's gotten a ton bigger and 33 seems long gone. I highly doubt he's beating Storr any time soon if ever.

Interesting... Trying to think of names. What's Brandon Slay up to now?

ISU is the very definition of a land mine job.
It is an opportunity to do something great but it does not seem to be a great administrative environment. Tough call. Even the most ambitious would have to think twice.

Iowa St should be a top 10 team, year in and year out. It's good for the sport. They have a really solid recruiting class coming in next year, hoping they can get a solid coach and not lose all those recruits. I may be alone in my thinking here, but I miss the duel meets when Iowa St was good. Like the Joe Heskett days.

Read your post on CF. And I'm extremely confused about your cryptic response regarding the newest recruits ...What did you mean regarding Allar... "I think that ship has sailed". He's signed, sealed, and delivered with the November NLI... to ISU. He likely requests a release, but that ship hasn't "sailed".

Yes he would. And he is worth the dollars it would take to get him back to ISU, for what he would bring in to that university.

You've posted this twice now.

You must believe it.

I could post 10 reasons why Cael wouldn't go from State College back to Ames, but I'll save the HR board the grief.

I can't speak for chief but he's not going to ISU. Thus, the ship has sailed.

Well, it's clear I'm one of the old farts around here, because I miss the Mike Land/Joe Zuspan/Kelly Ward/Frank Santana/Mike Mann days. . . .

EDIT: Also, although he was a great wrestler, I think I'd refer to the "Joe Heskett days" as the "Cael Sanderson days" instead. He was also pretty good.

Pollard will probably give the job to Hoiberg and tell him to hold tight for a year or 2 until he fires Prohm and it looks less suspicious.

He asked for his release prior to KJ stepping down.
