Seth Wallace just tweeted that we got some more "great news" out of "OUR state." That's his formula/code for a new in-state recruit. So, any idea who it could be?

UPDATE: It's Jacob Coons.

Good news....................the train from Solon just keeps on delivering talent.

How many more in state guys will we offer? I assume we'll offer kallenberger at some point. The only ones that have any stars at this point are him and Lombardi and I don't think Lombardi will get an offer, or at least not as QB. Anyone else? The younger Campos brother?

The best thing about it is Jacob comes from a great family and is an awesome person. Can't wait to see him play in the black and gold!

These are nice in state recruits, but let's face it, they are low hanging fruit. These are the kind of kids that would have committed if we finished 2-12 this year. They are hawk fans from Iowa. I want to see how we do with the tougher gets before I get too excited.

I like the k id from Wash also. Only seen 2 games if his but he could fly to the ball and made a bunch of tackles. Very quick and if he got his hands on you you weren't getting away

Brinkman from IC Regina plays center and also very good wrestler. Made DMR 1st team all elite as a junior. May be another Rob Bruggeman type player for us.

Nothing more exciting than getting kids that want to be Hawks - even more exciting when they are local!

Not only that, but it's just so early for the 2017 class right now. I haven't looked back, but it seems to me we're way ahead of where we usually are at this time of the year.

I'm wondering if a trend is starting. Kirk had most of his 2016 class wrapped up back in August. I remember an interview with Kirk where he spoke about the Hayden years and how he mentioned they used to offer during their senior season back in the day.

Early is certainly a trend. I've seen Coons as a tight end and also as a backer. I'd guess we get him in and have him put on a redshirt till he and we get it figured out.

As to low hanging fruit anytime you get your early offers to verbal you've got a player. If the coaches had any doubt that these kids could play they'd have played a waiting game especially coming off this season.

Happy to have everyone who has verbaled.

Don't you want the "low hanging fruit" to give up early and commit? So now they can concentrate on out of state people. These are kids the coaches saw in their camp. I'll betcha the staff believes they are better than "nice in state recruits".

My sentiment exactly. The "low hanging fruit" will also be guys who are most invested in the program ... and can do A LOT of positive recruiting for the program in the interim. Nothing stops them from hitting the camp-circuit this summer and maybe they can further improve their game and talk-up the Hawks while they're at it!

Also, quite a number of folks seem to think that we can leverage our current success "right now." The problem with that reasoning is that recruiting is all about relationships. Right now, our success will only help to land us on the radar of more recruits. However, that is still a down-stream proposition because most of the top guys for the '17 class who are only now learning about the Hawks have been recruited hard by other "brand name" programs earlier. We had nice success from 2002 to 2004 and we didn't enjoy a really "break-out" recruiting class until 2005. I wouldn't be surprised if it took the demonstration of a little "staying power" before more highly ranked guys decided to take the Hawks more seriously.

Lastly, I've noticed that on another board, some posters have been wondering why we've been targeting so many guys who have similar body-type. The fact of the matter is that due to graduation alone, we will lose around 17 "big-bodied" guys by the end of the '16 season. That means that we're going to need to replace that many "big-bodied" guys. By "big-bodied" guys, I mean guys who play TE, OL, or DL. Right now, between our current '16 and '17 recruiting classes, we're sitting at 14 such recruits. Thus, it would appear that we're still slated to land around 3 more of such recruits.

There's a lot of guys in the next couple of classes that seem to be versitale that can play te, de or linebacker such as fant, coons, welsh, Beyer. Will be interesting to see which guys play te and which guys end up at lb or de.

The low hanging fruit like Josey Jewell, Nate Meier, Boone Myers, Ike Boettger, HKC, Austin Blythe, and Mike Meyer?

I will take Morris based on their high school efforts. A fairly solid example of the issues if one just uses rankings.

I agree - Morris had more "on the field" prowess and the rankings alone IMHO only show a partial ability. Iowa coaches over the years have shown that they can recruit talent (or extract the talent from those they bring in).

Look at Jewel for an even better example, I think he is playing at what some would consider a "4star" level.

Predicting a 4 year starter and some NFL time?

Don't bring up Jewell with cidhawkeye he was one of the ones last January that wasn't that impress with JJ.

I coached a team that played against him and he was irrelevant in that game. He is an athlete and hope he will become a football player. He is no James Morris and it isn't even close.

Really, low hanging fruit. Depending on which recruiting site, several are 4 stars. We've had numerous in-state kids go somewhere other than Iowa over the past couple of years. Excited with these 4 commits. You would be the first to criticize if any had committed elsewhere.

You really need to take a positive pill. I have never seen one positive comment from you. I'm sure it pains you to not be able to bash the national coach of the year anymore.

'One of the ones'? I think it would be a stretch to say that the majority of the fan base were impressed with the linebackers last year. I will say they, especially JJ have exceeded what I expected this year. It's a great testament to hard work and team work making a huge difference. I know I didn't see this coming. If you watched last year and predicted this than I tip my hat to you.

Where do you coach? A coordinator?
