March 12 ESPN Bracketology (Final Edition): IOWA remains an 8 Seed (in Birmingham). Bracket Matrix has them as a 9 Seed

At some point we have to catch a break. Get the team that upset the higher seed in Round 2 rather than a 2 or 3 seed like usual.

I don’t ask for much. A sweet 16, a non-curb stomp Rose Bowl …
Being an Iowa fan is like:

"Hey sports gods, can we win a championship?"

*Lulz wut?.....No, you're Iowa. Stop asking.*

"Fine, then can we at least get a couple wins in the NCAA tournament, maybe a NY6 bowl appearance?"

"Are you serious? If you're just gonna settle for the next best thing, then you'll get nothing at all and like it*

"Umm.....are we still allowed to play football?......"

*Of course you are!.......But only on defense.*

"I don't think I like this game anymore."

*Now you're getting it. ;) *

Iowa is not a top 20 team. Probably not a top 30 team.

Note that I wrote on Friday afternoon that the team, which was on a 4 game winning streak, had the potential for a 5 seed. The team, of course, then did not show up the next day in Columbus.

There's still 12 regular season games to go. I am willing to see what happens.

I honestly think a 6 seed is totally within reach which is a crazy thing to think about with where we were at just a month ago. Just need to go on a little run here; KenPom has us projected to go 7-3 and one of those losses is @ Northwestern. It's not outlandish to think that Iowa can make a little February noise similar to last season. The schedule sets up nicely.

Would be a 6 or a 7 right now without Eastern Illinois IMO. The MSU missed fts game looms large too.

No way Indiana is going to be a #8 seed if they continue to play the way they are currently going. I would expect anywhere from a 4-6.

it will be interesting to see if we can work our way back to a 6

it would be nice to get off the 8/9, that's for sure

Again, Nebraska is currently a Q2 loss and is closer to being a Q1 loss than a Q3 at the moment. Now with 2 starters out the rest of the year, they're likely going to plummet but at the time they had just came off a road win against Creighton and took Purdue to overtime (which I still think the refs screwed Nebraska as a impartial observer). The home loss against Wisconsin is closer to a Q3 loss than Nebraska is.

If you simply replace the EIU loss with a 1 point victory over them the resume is 5-5 against Q1, 7-7 against the first 2 quadrants with no losses outside the first 2. They also likely don't plummet 20 spots in the metrics and instead it's about a 5-10 spot drop. That's largely an identical resume to what Indiana and Illinois have currently and Iowa's got a tougher Strength of Schedule at the moment.

Dave's one of the higher ranked bracketologists on the Matrix. He has Iowa as his top 7 seed in today's update.

I see 5-6 wins left on the schedule. Be curious what a 12-8 / 13-7 record gets us seeding wise. Obviously a win on the road against Purdue or Indiana greatly bolsters our resume. BTT will present potential wins as well.

Really thinking we should beat OSU at home, MSU at home, @Minny, Neb at home

Games we got a good shot @NW and @wisc
Very probably losses @Purdue and @Indiana

We have 4 potentially tricky road games left.

Here's where our 8 remaining games fall.

We have FOUR more Quad 1 opportunities at the moment.

Note how Minny is dangerously close to a Quad 4 game. Playing at the Barn is not easy, even when they suck.

Quad 1: Home (1-30), Neutral (1-50), Away (1-75)

Thu Feb 9 at #4 Purdue, 6 pm CT, ESPN2
Thu Feb 16 vs # 41 Ohio State, 8 pm CT, ESPN2
Sun Feb 19 at # 52 N'western, 5:30 pm CT, BTN
Tue Feb 28 at #22 Indiana, 6 pm CT, ESPN or ESPN2

Quad 2: Home (31-75), Neutral (51-100), Away (76-135)

Wed Feb 22 at #77 Wisconsin, 8 pm CT, BTN
Sat Feb 25 vs # 45 Michigan State, 11 am CT, ESPN or ESPN2

Quad 3: Home (76-160), Neutral (101-200), Away (136-240)

Sun Feb 12 at #235 Minnesota, 12 pm CT, FS1
Sun Mar 5 vs # 96 Nebraska, 1 pm CT, BTN

Quad 4: Home (161-358), Neutral (201-358), Away (241-358)
