The House select committee tasked with investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol will have its final public meeting on Monday and will potentially release a final report on Dec. 21, according to a person familiar with the committee’s plans who was not authorized to comment publicly.
The committee is likely to vote on the adoption of the final report during that Monday meeting. At that time, it also could make public any potential criminal and ethics referrals during that meeting.
The Post reported last week that the committee will make criminal referrals to the Justice Department, though no decision has been made on the target of a referral or what allegations of crimes the potential referrals would cover.
After several high-profile public hearings over the summer, the committee is finalizing its work. The panel was not expected to continue its work in the next Congress. In fact, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has said Republicans will probe the committee’s work when the GOP takes control of the chamber next year.
