Jan still planning to use full-court pressure?

I know it's still early, but Jan made it a point when she was first hired to say one of the things she wanted to do was add a full-court press. Through eight games, I haven't seen it, so I'm wondering if that's still in the works and, if so, if it's something she plans to save for the BIG season. Any comments, insights, or observations?

The rule used to be press teams that liked to press. That would mean spring it on TN. I suspect that they are putting in defense in order of priority, and that would be a lower priority that they would add later in the year if they develop enough on offense and higher priority defense schemes to get there.

The way they played last week, didn't look as though they have practiced against a press.

My recollection is that in her hiring press conference when asked about possible changes, she said somewhat off of the cuff that Raina always wanted to press so maybe they would. Was there ever anything after that? Since then, hasn't Sean Sullivan become the de facto (or official) defensive coordinator? Things change (or stay the same).

Admittedly, I didn’t see all of that Tennessee game, but while I was watching, I don’t remember them putting on a “hard press“ once… Yes, they had the defense spread full court but I didn’t see them trapping much in the back court, did they?

Here’s my thought on the full court press incidentally, Dr. Tom had a terrific full court press but for any of the old timers like me that wears itself out at a point in time. Especially if conference teams have seen it 10 years in a row and they never played particularly strong, half court defense ever.

This Iowa women’s basketball team has been a revelation to me, Afolter has not hit her groove yet neither has McCabe. Stuelke can still be better offensively, but every single one of those girls play defense, including Addison O’Grady, that is why I’m so high on this team!!!

I think the increased concentration on 3-point shooting has helped kill the effectiveness of that type of press. These days, teams have 3 to 5 guys on the court that can consistently hit that shot. It was less common in Dr Tom's time at Iowa. Many teams today would destroy Dr Tom's press.
