For the most part, I've just been enjoying watching him perform this year, but I've heard a few analysts trying to come up with comparisons for who his game or build or athleticism or talents are like. He's got a rare combination in all those aspects, but when I really started thinking about it the only person that came to mind was Tayshaun Prince. Similar build, similarly nasty defense, good all-around offensive skills, tough matchup for other players. I think Uthoff has a better, more consistent outside shot, though, maybe better overall offensively (though Prince was probably more skilled all around in terms of defense when he was in college). Anyway, it's the only comparison that seems even close to me.

A lot come to mind on the offensive end...but he is such a good defensive player/shot blocker...it is tough to think of an accurate match...

I wonder how his game will improve for the better or worse if he adds 15-20 lbs...

The drop step fade away is classic Dirk, tough to shoot with accuracy, and nearly impossible to block for someone as long as Uthoff.

Dirk does play ZERO defense however and has been consistent with that all his career.

I wonder how many teams had Uthoff on their short list of draft prospects and are a bit upset with his "arrival" on the national sage?

He is a tough matchup...not sure what is best to guard him, quickness, size, etc.

Of the names mentioned above I think Prince is the best comparison. They have a similar type of game and similar build.

Yep, That's the best comparison by far.

Very simillar offensive and defensive games. 3 PT shooter, back to the basket game, shot blocker.

Prince was a little longer and more athletic, Jarrod might be a little more skilled with the ball and a better shooter.

A combination of Prince and Detlef Shremph about nails.

Agreed, Uthoff is a little better shooter, Prince better off the bounce but especially on the defensive end it's a good comp. Prince destroyed Iowa in the '01 NCAA's, had about 35 if I remember correctly.

Uthoff is such a special talent with a truly rare combination of skills. It would honestly surprise me if he does not go in the first round of the draft. He might struggle on the defensive end in the NBA with the physicality aspect but his offensive skill and shotblocking ability should make up for it. How great would he fit with what the Warriors do?

I've been thinking that, too, that he's a Golden State type of player, a player who plays within the team's system. Like the rest of that squad, he makes each other player on the team better. But all in all, great answers by everyone (most everyone--oh, hell, even the joke comparisons were funny).

If JU polishes his ball handling and works on quicker/better feet, he could play a decade in the NBA. I think size wise, to me he looks like an NBA 3. I think purposely bulking up would hurt his game. As he matures, he'll naturally grow a bit more - he's gonna get stronger no matter what. I just don't see him as a natural 4 though cause he's just not naturally that big.

Right now, I'm having a tough time coming up with a spot on comparison. I can see maybe a shorter Dirk with less refined offensive skills but better defensive skills. As far as down the road though, he needs to get better overall to have a good NBA career, cause I don't think he's good enough to rely on that fallback jumper in the NBA.

Sum of natural talents though, he's as good as it gets the last 20 years at Iowa. Gifted college player blossoming right before our eyes.

JU would probably have to be a shooting guard in the NBA if he has any size advantage as 6'9" isn't tall for an NBA player.
