Sounds like there is strong mutual in interest between this young man and Iowa. Looks like he has a strong inside-outside game. He would fit nicely in Iowa's offensive scheme. Taking an official on September 3rd for Indiana game, same weekend as Dix. I give Fran credit, another 4* visitor. Speaking of Dix, with his interest on the rise, why no star rating?

A few years ago the Fran McCaffery and his staff put on a full court press to land and old school type big man in Luka Garza. Many schools opted not to offer the skilled big man and all he did was go on to win the national player of the year award in his senior year.
Fast forward to the Class of 2022 and Iowa has recently offered another old school big man in
Jaxon Kohler
from Utah. The Hawkeyes success with Garza has certainly left an impression on the four star big man.

“What they did with Garza helps a lot because it gives me confidence what they could do with me. There are some places were I’m not 100% sure how I would fit in and I know what it would be like at Iowa,” Kohler said.
Iowa first started recruiting the 6-foot-8 center early in his junior year. They finally moved into the offer category after Peach Jam when Fran McCaffery got an extensive look at him. Kohler praises the approach that Iowa has taken with him.
“The Iowa coaches are great people,” Kohler said of Fran McCaffery and assistant coach Sherman Dillard. “I haven’t met them in-person yet, but based on our conversations they are great guys to talk about basketball and life.”
Next up for Kohler is the process of making official visits. He mentions that along with Iowa the schools he is still considering are Kansas, USC, Washington, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. He has visits scheduled to Iowa for the first weekend in September, followed by trips to USC, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.
Why did the Hawkeyes end up with the first visit?
“We are super excited to visit Iowa,” he said. “We wanted to get to Iowa first and they wanted us to come out right away so it worked out perfectly.”
Kohler said he plans to take all five official visits and then make a decision shortly after the final trip.

Watched several videos from play this summer. He has a very nice fade away jumper and hook shot. Showed good range to the arc. He is 6' 8", so a shorter version of Luka. Saw the story this morning, USC is a concern, he is playing in California his senior year.

I read somewhere that USC just got a commit from a post player....not sure how/if that affects this...but certainly could.

Fran is definitely attracting interest from a very nice group for 2022 with different skill sets. Kohler looks like a great fallback from Filipowski.

The other thread says he lists himself as 6’10”, so maybe only slightly shorter and possibly still growing but yeah he does remind one of Garza at that age, thinner, quicker but same feel around the basket and pretty fair outside shot. Not saying he’ll ever be finished Garza but a nice place to start . First thing is to see him on campus which is scheduled. We’ll see where that goes

From that article, it sure sounds like as long as the visit goes well, he's going to commit soon after.

Glad to read he felt his visit was special. You have to take your hat off to Luka for coming back and spending time with Jaxson. Watching his tape, he reminds you a lot of Luka. I hope he realizes that Iowa's offensive style fits his game perfectly.

We don't win many recruiting battles against MSU, their late offer is concerning. I take my hat off to Fran and company, they are going all out for Jaxson.

Unfortunately Jaxson had a good time at MSU. You can't help but be impressed with their trophy room.

I have seen the Spartans slipping a bit though, missed on a couple commits last year, Hawks gave them a beat down last year which hasn't happened in years, Michigan is getting stronger, Izzo is getting long in the tooth and the luster has gone off the rose in East Lansing with all the scandals recently.

Keeping my fingers crossed that Jaxson sees Iowa as his best choice to get to the next level.

He is also a fallback recruit for MSU but unfortunately that doesn’t seem to matter to many players.

Question about the fallback recruit term. If a player is a so called fallback recruit, does that mean the player is just being recruited to be a practice player with the hopes of maybe being able to help the team down the road? I personally dislike the term fallback recruit. They wouldn't offer a kid if they didn't think they could play for them.

It refers to a recruit that might be 2nd or 3rd on the school's list of preferred recruits such that, if the school doesn't get their first choice (or 2nd choice), they still have this recruit to "fall back" to. All schools do it.

I know that but many of these so called "fallbacks" are offered a scholarship at the same time their top choices are. So are they really fallbacks? You don't offer a kid if you don't think he/she can help your team.

True, but you asked why they are called fallback recruits. I answered.

I have never understood why a highly recruited player would choose a program that only wanted them, if a couple of other players went somewhere else. Izzo has grabbed players to deny other teams, but he has definitely had a tougher time in the last couple of years.

When you do figure out basketball recruiting, will you let us know?

. I am listening to the testimony about Larry Nasir’ s sexual abuse of female athletes. This occurred among Olympic athletes and at Michigan State University. Many people at Michigan State including Tom Izzy were aware of Nassir’s behavior and he said nothing. As a parent, I would have a hard time sending my child to a University that overlooks this behavior. The history of Michigan State University is not squeaky clean. Jaxon Koehler, you could not make a better decision than to become a Iowa Hawkeye.

Izzo has overlooked problems within his BB program, and was never held accountable.

Tom Izzo had nothing to do with Larry Nassar you goof.

Excuse me! It has been well reported that Izzo, Mark Dantonio, and the athletic director were aware of the problem. The only one held accountable was the AD. I have a cousin that is a professor at Michigan State. He said it is very well known that the University is trying to sweep this under the rug. They don’t want it to get out that Izzo looked the other way just as he did with the Walton rape situation.

To further your point, the college athletic departments are not huge, certainly not big enough to hide a perv without help from above-or perhaps the Nelsonian eye rather than help.

Those girls Nassar abused told someone, probably their friends and teammates. Since there is significant cross over dating between the boy and girl athletes, or within a common dating pool it is almost impossible to believe that no girl ever told their BF that they, or more likely one of their friends, reported for a knee injury and got a free gyno. That's the kind of story that would tend to make some college BFs fairly angry. It is also the kind of gossip spreads through an athletic community like the Black Death. Every coach in the school would hear about it within two weeks, unless major steps were taken to prevent the high visibility coaches and executives from learning about it. Its the kind of gossip that simply cannot be contained without institutional efforts to contain it.

There were a lot of adults, men and women, that betrayed the girls Nassar victimized. If Izzo didn't know it was only because his chief assistants and managers all knew better than to tell him.

Can you list the "problems" that occurred and that he was not held accountable for?

Or are you just making stuff up?
Sounds like you are a Sparty fan, so you should know the names of the BB players who abused women on Izzo's watch, while he looked the other way. I guess you could argue that he didn't know what Nasir was doing, although it sounds like it wasn't a big secret in East Lansing. He sure got really quiet for one of the few times in his life, when shit finally hit the fan.

I once liked Izzo. Now, I think he is a whiney prick, who tries to sell himself as the good guy, but events around him suggest that he likes to look the other way when bad stuff is going on around him.

Announcing in a couple hours? If so, doesn't look good based on the lack of chatter on this site. Too bad, he could have helped a lot. I hope he did not get sucked into Michigan State... just not a good "look" right now!

You actually believe that Izzo and Dantonio knew anything about Nassar and not only knew, but helped cover it up?

Please share this evidence with me.

If Izzo pretends hedidn't know he is saying he has no idea of what is happening in his program and athletic department. Nobody believes that, even msu fans.

Ha. Iowa has been recruiting him for years. Izzo for two weeks and he gives Iowa the gasface. About says it all in regards to the pecking order in the big ten .

Go away. I'll enjoy beating you again this year. Come back after you win a game.

Yes I do. First, it has been well reported. Secondly, my cousin is a professor at Michigan State. My cousin heard these complaints and also personally reported this to his superiors. He was told to forget about it and don't pursue this or he could risk being terminated. He was also told that if he reported anything negative that would hurt Izzo's reputation, there would be hell to pay. I have more proof but it is not worth trying to convince people that want to deny abuse covered up all the time. There is a current investigation being opened up that will bring down some big names. My cousin has been contacted about giving a statement. That is all I am at liberty to say. Watch the news. More interesting information is about to come out.

It’s really not that deep. Iowa is set at big man for the foreseeable future between Rebraca, Ogundele, and Mulvey. I’m sure Kohler is going to be good which is why Fran was in on him, but it wasn’t a position of need. Both Shaw and Nickel were bigger misses, even though it sucks that Jackson is going to a Big Ten school

I think Bowen and Dix is a great class, and time to look to next year, where we are in on some really good prospects
