Both Wright and Caliper have proven they'll have their teams playing their best basketball come March. They've proven that. On the other hand...

Carton would be our best player. If we could have just landed Carton, Foster to go with JoeW and Pat Mac ,we could fly with local kids

I think his post was mainly to illustrate that it's not fair to evaluate an entire season solely based on the first few games

He isn't? Because the majority of the board was in melt down... A couple key players leave the team last year and everyone wants us to reload like we are duke.
I think it's continuation of the criticisms Fran has drawn for several years. I cannot imagine a single person has thought he was a great coach all along and suddenly changed their mind in the last few months.

The thing with Fran is that early season success is what he usually hangs his hat on.
If Iowa had a coach that could land Carton and Foster or any of the other high level players that have spurned his offer- then Iowa could compete athletically.
Yup, Wright's in trouble. If only he had a track record of recent high level performance in the post season to support the case for keeping his job

I agree, Jay Wright must go.....straight to Iowa City to become the head coach. I'm not ready to give up on Fran unless Jay Wright or someone at his level were willing to take the job.
Fran's overall body of work folks ... This IS as good as it gets. This is Year #10 and we aren't making the tourney. Every team in college basketball is now dealing with roster turnover ... The one-and-done/transfer portal have changed the game forever. EVERY coach is dealing with new players ... Stop making excuses that 'well, we lost Cook and Moss.'
Fran is not a good recruiter. Not a ringing endorsement when the top kid in the state admits to being an Iowa fan but makes the call to go to ISU instead because it can help him get to the NBA.
Fran's resume:
Iowa (overall record): 175–132 (.570)
Iowa (BIg 10 record): 79–86 (.488) - very concerning
Total: 426–309 (.580)
Take away the given yearly cupcake games and Fran is probably hovering around a 53% winning percentage at Iowa ... I seriously don't know how/why people continue to make excuses for Fran 10 years later ... I've watched 40 years of Iowa athletics (good and bad) ... Fran has peaked folks ... This is it.

Couple that with an unbalanced conference schedule and I think you could make a case for his winning percentage being right around 50 percent.
