Jbo selling shoes and will be donating to UofI Children’s hospital

Yes, I really hope this was worked out through the legal dept or there may be eligibility problems if he temporarily has this money.

I saw where Tyler Cook wants 30 tickets. Good on TC. Once a Hawkeye always a Hawkeye. His punk last fall at Jack Trice was classic, walking around inside the stadium with his number 25 BB jersey on yelling, "Go Hawks" and the look of ISU fans was priceless.

From a compliance issue, what is stopping any of the players from selling their stuff they get for free from the shoe companies?

I understand this is with a non-profit organization benefitting, but who is to say a player doesnt take half?

I assume this is the type of thing that in a few years players COULD take a portion of the money? Obviously the player better he open/honest about what they pocket, otherwise major backlash, if they say 100% goes to a charity, but pocket half.

The nice thing would be that a player like JBo could do this and not have to worry about jumping through the right hoops. Just fire up their venmo and post the idea, while the iron is hot.

I don't think he controls the venmo, but like others have stated I hope this was properly vetted and complies with all NCAA rules. I cannot even imagine the ramifications if he were to sit out the rest of the year, then be ruled ineligible after the season because of this stunt (yes, make no mistake, it started as a stunt even if it is ending with a feel good)

If the compliance office was not all over this from the start there would be multiple people fired for letting this get to this point it has only to find out JB was in violation of some NCAA rule.

In short, here is how I imagine this went. JB told Fran his intentions. Fran contacted the compliance department. The Compliance folks squared everything away through the NCAA guidelines and then the story broke. Which is why JB said there would be an announcement later. That was just buying more time for the "people" to get everything signed off on.

All seems like a pretty simple process to me. However, I consider documentation a simple process as well and well....others in the Iowa Athletic Department don't.

Given the changing landscape NCAA Compliance won't say boo about this,... nor should they.

For sure. If they're going to start paying players for their likeness, don't see why this would be an issue, as long as its monitered, and he donates all the proceeds....

considering all donations are done electronically, that would be pretty ballsy imo

In the good ol' days players would take new, U of Iowa issued shoes to places like Foot Locker and "exchange" them for different shoes.
