Well, an All American candidate. It was news to the clowns at
ESPN, as well as other national media mouth-flappers.

However, 25 points, 5 blocks on the road at Purdue.

Perhaps they'll learn. There's not a more skilled player, for his size in
the USA this year. Of course, the Dem Moines Register doesn't know about him either.

If Iowa wins the Big 10 he will get attention. I think anything but won't get him there because you've got lottery players like Simmons, Melo Trimble and people in Duke jerseys on ESPN nightly like Grayson Allen crowding the field.

It might be tough even getting 1st team all big ten. Trimble, Hammons, Levert, Valentine, Ferrell and a few others will be contenders.

It's a stretch, but he's certainly a candidate.

If he had Aaron White toughness, it would be his award to lose. That kind of play is a rarity, so no fault against him.

Remember when White was plan B? Glad the Hawks accidentally ended up with an extra year out of the original target.

And BTW, loved Uthoffs playing with a set of nuts comment on the radio. Maybe he's the step up guy that gets the team behind him. I'm very intrigued how his season goes after his play thus far and that ballsy leadership statement. If they continue to surprise, I think Jarrod Uthoff will continue to be a huge part of it.

Oh I agree with Jess...Jess knows basketball too. It will be tough because of what CP84 is saying above but for those not paying any attention to Jarrod's play or those like me who have not seen enough of these other college superstars but:
  • Who has scored 30 pts in a half of play in one tToughest road environments like Hilton against one of tToughest teams in the country ...that performance alone I have yet to see anyone else do....but again, I am all ears to hear more? PS..this first half performance was no fluke and he could do this again and again if the opp exists...he's that good imo.
  • And then to add in his performance on the road again in another one of tToughest road environments like Mackey against #14 in the country is one for the ages and tell me again who has seen two games with bigger nuts to date? I am all ears?
  • Second in the conference in scoring with games against MSU and PU already. 45.2 3 pt %, 2 per game. 6 rebounds per game. 80% FT. And Jarrod is not even in the Top Minutes played via Big Ten stats.
Yea...he is ALL AMERICAN and certainly ALL BIG TEN in my book to date if you line item stats and risk adjust......I am all ears?

He's not black, not a ***ONE AND DONE*** superstar (in my opinion, the cancer killing the NBA), not 7-foot tall, and doesn't play for Duke/Kentucky/UCLA/Kansas.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Hopefully Jarrod goes off for about 40 against 'our friends' from out west, who are
coming into CHA on Tuesday nite

Uthoff is currently third in KenPom's POY rankings, behind only Buddy Hield and Valentine. Not a stretch at all to say he is having an All-American type year.

Somebody posted the KenPom Uthoff ranking in the Lounge too which only helps validate my stats above for Jarrod and being an AA.

Isn't Jarrod in the top 5 nationally for blocked shots?

Right now he's as good of a candidate for AA status as anyone. He also has plenty of chances vs big name schools to validate why he's that good.....and it'll take more Iowa wins to make that happen.

2016 kenpom.com Player of the Year Standings
Data through games of Sunday, January 3
Player kPOY Rating
1 Buddy Hield, Oklahoma 2.039
2 Denzel Valentine, Michigan St. 1.635
3 Jarrod Uthoff, Iowa 1.463
4 Grayson Allen, Duke 1.432
5 Anthony Gill, Virginia 1.425
6 Malcolm Brogdon, Virginia 1.424
7 Josh Hart, Villanova 1.423
8 Daniel Ochefu, Villanova 1.331
9 Jameel Warney, Stony Brook 1.294
10 Perry Ellis, Kansas 1.277

Thank god he is ranked ahead of a dude named Grayson.

It's been a while since Iowa has had a talent like Uthoff. He uses his size on the defensive end and can shoot. He has a 11% blocked shot rate, 17th in the country.

I also think he is smart... He let's Gesell and Woodbury think they are the brass, when he is the guy who needs the ball on the final possession.

Dude is a killer. He might be the difference maker this March.

I don't think there will be any spots left on the All American team because they will all go to Ben Simmons. He is the best ever one and done and the greatest college player of all time and he has singlehandedly made LSU relevant despite an 8-5 record. I am leaving a lot out, but you can check out ESPN to read the 50 articles they have on him today and every day. Oh yeah, he is also the next Magic, LeBron, Kobe, and Jordan.

I have never seen ESPN have such a crush on a player. They must have a Ben Simmons Department in Bristol with a 5 articles per day per writer quota.

Remember when ESPN and a lot of the Sports groupie journals had a crush on
Marcell Page. Oh, did I spell his name wrong? The kid that went to UNC from
Marion High.

If Uthoff continues on his current path and does not end up 1st team All BIG then it will be biggest snub ever, especially if we finish in the top three.

He is avg. 18 ppg, 6 rpg, and 3.5 bpg.

He is second in scoring in the BIG and leads all shot blockers. His defense, imo, is somewhat underrated as well. Very good defender.

All-American is iffy. I think 2nd team might be more realistic.

Or a deep affiliation with the SEC.

It's early boys, but if on the road at Purdue is any indication, he can make a run at AA. He contributes in so many ways...it's nuts...it really is. If he continues to hit the 3, which I think he will...the stuff to the basket will continue to be there. I can't get that left handed scoop shot out of my head. If you watch that, it starts with a move to his right, then dribbles between his legs from back to front to his left hand, drives to the basket around a big with the looping left handed scoop for two. That was a crazy move on par with the cross over dunk at Iowa State. Pro Scouts have to be shaking their heads saying where did this guy come from...it's another level this year for sure. Love it.

I think the talent is there, but he will need some more top performances on big stages when they present themselves. He will also have to fight the extreme bias for ACC, SEC, Pac 12, and others over B1G and specifically Iowa.

Nice that Andy Katz referenced 'Without Denzel Valentine' when he gave the rundown for Iowa being team of the week re: beating MSU. Also threw in we finished 7th at Advocare Invitational, but now are a legitimate contender in the big ten.

Yea....and outside of a BIG football or a BB game or other college football or BB game, I hardly ever, ever watch any other programming that station puts out there. It's the least I can do....I doubt they care but I try.

He'll have to perform better than the bigger names and more highly publicized programs in order for it to happen.
Pre-season picks and the duke players of the college b-ball world are the presumed best players.
IF Uthoff gets the honor at the end of the season, and that's a big if, he will absolutely have earned it.

If he keeps doing what he's doing he should get it. I wouldn't say he's there yet though.

Hawks aren't the preferred honorees but sometimes the kids just play so well its too hard to hose 'em Ute's overall stat line is very very impressive and we're winning with big wins of late.

You mean the kid who scored 30 pts last night and had 5 Rebs and 5 assists on the road.

Actually one and done hurts college way more than the NBA, the straight from highschool was really hurting the NBA.

The NBA is doing the best its done since Jordan, mostly because of the Warriors and Spurs bringing back ball movement and motion and doing it at an amazing level.

All American is probably unlikely but you can pretty much pencil Uthoff and Valentine in for 1st team all Big.

The last three spots will be between Trimble, (mostly likely) Hammonds ( he would be a lock if he didn't split time with Hass) Nigel Hayes (bad team) and Yogi.

Realistically it probably comes down to Yogi and Hayes for the last spot.

I didn't see this thread before posting in the other. I would like JU to shoot all the end of game FT's. He is a better shooter than Mike and deserves the freebies.

Uthoff seems to have finally realized how good he is. If he keeps being aggressive, Iowa could have a very high ceiling this year. He's the best scorer Iowa has had since Haluska's senior year.

Hes atleast the best since Woolridge.

Hulusak was great but Uthoff can do so many more things.
