Apologies if discussed but I don't see anything on the front page about him.. but when will we know what his choice is? Looking around, some sites don't list him in top 100 draft prospects. Does he have a deadline when he has to declare? I've always assumed he'll be back but haven't heard anything for a while. Anyone? Bueller?

Jok would need an invitation to the draft combine to go and workout and be evaluated. If, as you say, he is not part of the top 100 draft prospects Jok will not get an invite.

Jok has as long as until late May to decide. Unless he hires an agent.
With the invitation only combine workout in place, Jok would need to hire an agent if he planned on declaring for the draft. I doubt he has received an invite to Chicago, so Jok is going no where but back to class.

Or he can wait to see if any teams express interest in him outside the workout.

ROTFL, yeah that is going to happen. Jok is not ready to turn pro and if he does not receive an invite to the combine that means he is not on the NBA radar.

Look, Dick, the op was asking WHEN we might know Jok's decision. I simply replied with when the window to decide to stay in school or not closes. Late May.

You've been a whopping slew of misinformation recently and I don't understand why you are proud of it. Besides this turn to proudly proclaim Jok won't become a pro, and this stupid little post:

"Some kids would rather play for championships rather than Round of 64 thrashings and for that I say well done Mr. Paige."

It should be obvious all you want to do is use the board for slams. Much like a few other posters.

So, in an attempt to educate an A$$hole, Iowa hasn't lost in the round of 64 since Alford was a coach!!!! Dummy. Even when bashing you don't know jack.

Maybe ready maybe not, that's for the NBA to decide not you and me, but all draft eligible players can be evaluated then return to college if they don't hire an agent and makes a decision within 10 days.

Jok is not ready yet for the NBA. Hopefully for his sake and the Hawkeyes that is made clear to him soon. And then hopefully that leads to him having something to prove and he works his butt off in the offseason only to come out and look like a 1st team all B1G player and a 1st Rd draft pick.

Hard to see him getting indications from the evaluation that he's likely to be drafted.
It is a perfect opportunity for him to get feedback on his deficits from the guys that are truly in the know as to what NBA teams are looking for. Why not take advantage of that?
The odds of his return to Iowa for a senior season are very high.

Why must you resort to pomposity and name calling? Typical of your posts when someone is not worshiping at the feet of the black and gold. I meant to say Round of 32 simple misspeak, but I am sure someone with your pedigree and 9,000 plus posts since 2013 cannot understand because you must be the master of your domain.

"Not every player who declares for the draft will get a Combine invitation, as the NBA usually invites approximately 60-70 players each year. NBA teams vote on the invitation list, so a player's omission should be treated as a sign that NBA scouts don't view them as a viable draft candidate for that year. The invitations are usually issued a week or two prior to the Combine, so we should expect a full list of the participants in early May. Players invited to the Combine may work 12 hours per week with their college coaching staffs at their home facilities to prepare for the Combine."

Players being allowed to workout 12 hours a week with the coaching staff is a big bonus for up and coming players.

By the way DanL, I never said that he is not good enough to go pro. The reality is he his not good enough this year to go pro, another year of college ball and he just might be good enough.

I know nothing about the procedure, but I'm surprised to learn it's invitation-only and Jok may not get one. It's difficult to believe a kid would announce, as definitely as he did, that he was going to test the waters and make a decision, if there were a chance he wouldn't be able to do so. He could end up looking pretty silly. He never struck me as slow-witted.

12 hours is not accurate.

It is a max 4 hours per day for up to 20 hours per week.

From local newspapers:
"Jok released a statement through the university on Thursday afternoon:
“I would like to take advantage of the opportunity that is now presented to underclassmen in going through the process of obtaining input from NBA personnel so that I can make an informed decision about my future. For me, this whole process is for experience to see how it all works and then return to work on my game,” he said.

“It’s comforting having the support of coach McCaffery and staff. Coach will continue to be a valuable resource for me during this process. If it’s not the right time for me to make the move to the NBA, I’m excited about returning and leading our team next season.”

That sounds like Jok is being a realist, l;earning from the process to see where he needs to sharpen his game. No need to take jabs at him.

I think you have to declare your desire to tryout so that your name can be submitted, then you must wait for the invite; at least, that is how I read it.

Can't blame him for getting a "free" evaluation. My observation would be that he would return, having learned those aspects of the game that would be good for his professional prospects to improve on.

Because you deserve it.

It isn't just about the combine. They can receive feedback from teams, could potentially work out with teams even if not invited. They have until 10 days after the combine to remove their name from consideration. In the past so many underclassmen went undrafted, partly because they had to declare so early and couldn't change their mind after late April. He doesn't look silly and doesn't make him "slow-witted." He is simply taking advantage of the new system, getting feedback on what pro teams and scouts think he needs to do to get drafted.

The last I heard the Iowa staff was under the impression that they can only work out for a team if they are invited to the combine.

This. He is making a smart decision for his future. Learn what the experts think he needs to improve on. Work your arse off the next 12 months and see if he can make his dream happen...
Meanwhile, he is in classes doing workouts and preparing for what's next. Most likely leading the Hawkeyes to the NCAAs. Again

It'll be interesting to see how these new combine rules play out. I'm guessing teams will start following Kentucky and have every person declare every year.

Yep. This is a no-brainer for Jok and anyone like him that has any kind of talent at all. His odds of getting drafted right now are just a smidge better than mine are of hitting the Powerball. Fully expect him to be wearing black and gold in Iowa City next year.

Not sure why people seem to be having such a hard time wrapping their heads around this. It's absolutely a good decision for Peter Jok and anyone like him who thinks they have a semi-legit shot at being drafted..................... next year for most like him, and perhaps fortunate even then.

The last I heard the Iowa staff was under the impression that they can only work out for a team if they are invited to the combine.

That may be true, I was reading this from the NCAA like they could do any and all, "Students can also enter NBA draft multiple times without jeopardizing eligibility & participate in combine & 1 tryout per NBA team per year."

Or, and try to follow along, I'm just a poster on an Iowa Hawkeye forum. Which, as an Iowa Hawkeye Forum tends to have some Iowa Hawkeye fans. Fans that like discussing Iowa basketball, or if you look around at the other pages many Iowa sports.

Yes, I get perturbed and probably more so that most on here when a bashing, degenerate, Clone fan or other decides this is the place to put on his one man bashing act. And I say as much.

It's a discussion forum, remain respectful toward the subject at hand and I won't be disrespectful towards you.

I've got to take Dan's side on this one. His opinions may be biased, at times, but I don't know why Prohminator has to be a dick about it.

I don't think it was clear when it was first announced, so I can see both thought processes after reading the various news articles about it.

My discussion with someone on staff was awhile ago, so I am sure they have clarified it by now. I will try and get an answer and will post it here. Would be interesting to know how Jok or someone like him could set up the workout when they don't have an agent or representative working the phones for him.

That is a good question.

I would make a bet that since this is the first year for such freedom to investigate a pro future, and because it is essentially supposed to help college players make better decisions, that it is probably a cluster ****. But, I doubt any kid will get nailed for slight errors in how things are done until the NCAA irons out exactly how things are to be done.

I hope that is the case, but with the NCAA and the other people involved (agents, dumb kids, etc.), you never know.

I would never assume anything with the NCAA. The more common sense the idea less id be willing to be on it.

I hope we see the day the power 5 inform the ncaa their services are no longer necessary and created a real governing body whos interests don't directly conflict with actually governing.

no it is not silly with the rule changes there are a lot of players doing the same thing.

also wouldn't Jok want to see how he stacks up. after all he avg'd 7 ppg as a SO then avg'd 16.1 ppg as a JR., that bid of a improvement year over year catches a lot of attention, Jok is not getting the attention because in my opinion he plays for IA and not a so called blueblood.

sorry but IA is not a blue blood and will not get much respect as a team nor its players, with what Jok did this past season he should be the front runner for the BT POY, but he won't.

Jok has as long as until late May to decide. Unless he hires an agent.
When you think about it, it's just another thing to give more gray hairs to coaches. Late May to find out if a starter is coming back, and if he doesn't probably too late to sign a replacement, grad or otherwise. Yeah, it's supposed to be a help to the player.
