Jok said Showalter should have fouled out in 1st half the way he was grabbing Jok

Hadn't seen that much mugging since the Nebraska game. It was ridiculous, but I've given up on worrying about officiating. They made bad calls last night that went against both teams, but it did seem like Wisconsin had the mindset to mug on defense the entire game, knowing damn well the officials wouldn't call most of it.

Also, I can't stand that Showalter little punk b!tch. The whole game he looked like he was trying to molest Jok and at times had his face so close to Jok's crotch like he was trying to....anyway, yeah, and then he whines and cries about the elbow. Wish Jok had knocked a couple of his teeth out. Lol.

I was concerned at halftime Gard would be telling his team something to the effect "Look, we have NOBODY in foul trouble. We MUST become more aggressive on defense, hold, push, mug your man until fouls become a concern." If he didn't it sure as heck would have been what I have told them. Did they have any players with more than 1 foul in the first half? Maybe Happ did?

He sorta reminds me of Grayson Allen.

Iowa shot 1 FT in the first half. Not totally unreasonable as Iowa shot 11 3's and turned it over a lot. Second half Wisconsin definitely made an emphasis on getting in Iowa's space. One possession Wisconsin committed 4 fouls that ended in two Pemsl FT's. Badgers basically dared officials to keep calling fouls and Iowa got a bit passive on attacking the rim. Once Badgers got up by 9 Iowa started going to the hoop again.

He is often mentioned as a tough defender when in fact he is a thug in Basketball shoes IMO. But, he is the kind of guy you like to have on your team.

Jok made only two buckets Thursday, but did scratch one big item off his bucket list. The Kohl Center was the only Big Ten venue where the Iowa senior had not emerged victorious.

He said he was aware of that fact heading into the game, but quickly turned a question about it into a diatribe on the officiating, particularly an odd play that occurred with 3:12 remaining. Zak Showalter was called for a foul on Jok, who made his first free throw before the officials went to the monitor and determined that Jok had also committed a flagrant foul on the play. So both players ended up shooting free throws.

“Somebody told me that before,” Jok said of winning in all 14 Big Ten arenas. “We knew there were going to be a lot of bad calls during the game. Our mindset was just to stay focused and stay with each other no matter what they do and get back on defense and stop them. It was just a big win for the team and the program.

“First off, (Showalter) should’ve been fouled out in the first half the way he was guarding me, grabbing me. It’s like a football game out there. I was trying to come off the screen, and he was right there, and he grabbed me. I was trying to swing. And they say I hit him in the face.”

Wisconsin basketball is a history of losers who can't win straight up so they have to cheat.

Can't say I agree with that. I think all Iowa fans would take the level of success they've enjoyed the last two decades in a heartbeat. Hardly losers. And unless you have credible evidence of them having a history of cheating (i.e.like the New England Patriots) then your comment reeks of butthurt.

watch any of their games numb nuts.

grabbing flopping forearm shiver screens.

that's not basketball.

I would rather have a two hour root canal than watch Wisky play hoops. It has been terrible the last several games the way they play....
Has turned into a mug fest when you play them....ridiculous.
And as a sidepoint I cant stand Showalter either. Reminds me of the entire NFL Patriots wide receiver corps....bunch of little whiny smurfs running around the field...

Every time I come over here you guys are crying about the officials........is it a rite of passage or something?

Posted this before...this is Wisconsin basketball...its their MO>

they have always had a Showalter...previously it was Gasser. Previous to him it was someone else. Its not BB & Peter is right for saying so. The game plan is stop Jok by grabbing, hand slapping, hand checking, ...when the stripes don't call it...it takes your top gun out of the game...

and it would have worked if Happ (Mr Happy Feet) could hit half of his free throws

so while this is going on...we get moving screen calls. I watched the replay multiple times..the calls for illegal screens were ridiculous...Jok...Pemsl...Kriener..

The bad news for Wisconsin...Iowa has established a culture...its called 'players'...a number of them in fact. Who you going to pinpoint to play maul ball next year? Good Luck with that...Wiskers.

And I'll add...officiating college basketball is not a walk in the park..we all understand that...we also got some breaks in the Wisc game....

however...when a single player is playing defense against another player like Showalter was..you would think (with the freedom of movement) that out of 3 guys...at least one of them would step in and tell the kid....look it...enough.

The grab by Showalter where PJ ""accidently"" hit him in the head was common..Pete was constantly having to clear his arms & his hands. Its a foul...Showalter should have been called. There is a reason he had 4 fouls...should have fouled out.

Looks like Wisconsin is going to barely keep their streak of finishing in the top four of the conference intact. Maybe the Big Ten Powers That Be will take a look at television market shares, the style of play (boring), and the level of embarrassment it takes to allow the Badgers to play Hockey on a basketball court.........

....maybe....

I'd love to see what would happen if they had to play teams straight up. :)

Michigan State as well. The Don Izzo is getting older, maybe he's lost a step.

Time for some new favorite sons? Better still, maybe just let the chips fall where they may with decent officials and fairly called games.

Iowa only shot 7 free throws for the game. Wisky shot 14 which isn't really a lot either. Not a lot of fouls called.

Yeah it is amazing the amount of off-ball contact that is allowed in the Kohl Center. To Iowa's credit, the players adjusted and played the same way. It was the best defensive effort of the year by far by Iowa.

I dont give a crap about physical ball. But, In conference when you plays MSU, or Wis. they are allowed to mug but if you touch them the whistle blows, and that in itself blows.

Wouldn't it be awesome, however, if Showalter got called for the grabbing and the ref signaled holding and then yelled at Gard, "Sorry, there is no freedom of movement when your players are holding. Thus, the foul."

IF we play Wisky on Friday, I wonder if anything changes?

What happened to the Freedom of Movement rule?

It's playoff time. Mug-ball will be back and in full force. The refs, fans, and tv stations want exciting games so they'll swallow the whistle and let them play even if they're fouling every time down the court.

Compare the game of Iowa vs PSU with the game of Iowa vs Wisky. Iowa/PSU is such a better game to play in and watch.

It is up to the B1G to tell officials to enforce "freedom of movement", but it is almost never called on the 2 most successful programs over the past decade or two, Wisconsin and MSU. You take that away from those two programs, and they are just pretty good.
