Josh Ogundele

not good hands in traffic
I was going to post the same thing. We all joked about Luka and the amount of comments made on his soft hands the last couple years. Ogundele, on the other hand, can’t grab rebounds or loose balls because his hands ain’t great

Get him as much experience as possible
This. I’ve seen nothing in Josh that can’t be cured by experience. His size and athleticism is exceptional. He fought for rebounds tonight and was triple teamed when he got the ball, just didn’t know how to handle the pressure. I’m very encouraged by what I saw. Lots of potential and effort.

ok so have you watched him? Fundamentally he has a long way to go

I watch the games. He would have redshirted last year but didn't need to. He has 4 years of eligibility left. He made some good plays in the first half and was out of sync in the 2nd

He needs lots of work.

Yeah, even against 4 cupcakes, Fran was hesitant to play him.

Here are his minutes so far:

0 vs Longwood (did not play; back issue)
6 vs Kansas City (32 point Iowa win)
1 vs NC Central (had 2 fouls in the 1 minute; Iowa won by 17)
8 vs AL State (had 2 turnovers; Iowa won by 26)

What's weird is I don't recall anyone considering him a project when he first committed 2 years ago, on Nov 13, 2019. That tone seemed to change when (1) we started hearing about his weight and conditioning issues and (2) Jack got injured and he was still getting next to no playing time last season.

We all know that Fran does not hesitate playing true freshmen if they are ready. Last year Josh was clearly not ready. This year, so far, Josh does not appear ready. Not even against lowly UMKC.

Josh had 19 offers; 2 were Power 5 offers (Iowa, Rutgers).

Other offers of note: Cincinnati and Providence.

He officially visited all 4 schools.

I think if you look back that a lot of posters thought he was a project. I reserved judgment because frankly, there just wasn't enough video on him to make a reasonable judgment.

That said, I see potential but he's no where near ready for many B1G minutes. 5 - 10 minutes a game as needed, but he is still trying to figure it out. Not sure if the light will come on but I hope so.

Mulvey has shown more potential in his HS videos. He still looks like a deer in the headlights out there, but he does have a nose for the ball rebounding.

I hope at least one of these 2 can pan out.

People said he was likely a highly recruited project, might take a couple of years to develop, and that he would end up better than Xavier Foster. Mission accomplished so far.

If Jack Nunge hadn't bailed no one would care.

Highly recruited? Did you mean lightly recruited? I don't recall a recruiting battle for Big O.

Fran will have to make a decision next spring on whether to look for a big in the transfer portal because we only have guards coming in (Dasonte Bowen & Josh Dix) and we might be losing Keegan to the NBA.

Owen Freeman, of course, does not arrive until 2023.

A versatile 4/5 with some 3 skills would be good

Not bashing him. I think he has a lot of potential. But the reality of it is he has a long way to go. I am pulling for him, just like I do for all Hawks.

i just hope things change quickly so that he can give us some minutes when we start playing the big boys (Virginia, Purdue, Illinois are coming up)

You are right. Keep bashing the kid so that you look wrong next year.
Lol keep making stuff up. No one is bashing him. We are just saying he has a LONG way to go to see any significant minutes/contribution.

This has nothing to do with not "pulling for him"

We have 2 really good guys that fit this bill - the Murrays. We need a real center that can at least rebound and get maybe 8-10 per game and score 5-10 points.
What this team could really use, and what we could’ve used the past few years, is a guy like Ahmad Wagner. A defensive force, scrappy rebounder who can clean up misses, lock guys up, and defend pretty much anybody from the 5 spot. Gets garbage points here and there as well for 15-20 mpg

You are right. We are simply discussing what has been reported and what we have observed in games vs cupcakes.

You would think that if Josh were going to play extended minutes, it would be in our first 5 games, at least. But, instead, Fran has only used him in garbage minutes.

And hate to say it, but it looks like Josh still has a gut on him, which means more weight loss is needed.

It is what it is.

Yeah we could use more NBA caliber guys too, but I just mean even somebody relatively unskilled with the ball in their hands who can play 15 minutes off the bench with a high motor that’s going to battle on the boards and play good defense with high versatility. It’s more realistic and something we’ve been missing

As thin as we are on the front line, it would have been a real boon to the program if Josh had been ready to play meaningful minutes this year. Unfortunately, it appears as though that won't be the case. If he can't justify his presence on the floor for ten minutes against the level of competition we're currently playing, I don't see how he is going to help much against Purdue or Illinois or really any of the better teams in the conference.

Kris Murray was sick
That doesn't change what he said. He's NOT a big body. He's not. The twins maybe listed closely in weight but Keegan looks about 10-15 lbs bigger on the screen. Bigger in the upper body, and watching him run away from the camera he looks like he's put some good weight into his backside. As you said maybe Kris being ill may have cost him a few lbs though..

Yeah, it appears the only big Fran trusts off the bench is Kris. That is scary and disappointing.

Remember when Fran said this is the deepest team he has ever had at Iowa?

Hate to say it but the Dec 3 game at Purdue could get really, really ugly. Mackey Arena always gives us fits, even when we have had good teams.

And since when did this board have patience? ;)

Can Riley still redshirt? I would hate to have him hardly play and he loses a year.
This redshirt thing has been brought up a half dozen times already in regards to the two walk ons. NO once they've played they can't redshirt, unless its a medical. I think Mulvey can help us in short spurts especially on the boards.
