The kid got dinged with an OWI and he is suspended one game and loses his scholarship for summer school?

A one game suspension when you have pretty much split time all year isn't much. And no classes over the summer sounds like an awesome break. Where is the punishment?

only reason he is suspended is because its Minnesota this week. If they were playing Sparty the official release would read "We will let the legal process play its self out before determining what course of action to take with JT."

Then he would be suspended for SW Louisiana Tech next Fall. Nothing to see here, BAU.

Didn't Meyer make a big deal last year about how he'd suspend Winston for a long period after the crab legs thing? However this year with Barret drinking underage and driving over the legal limit it's a 1 game thing.

Different situation, that was strike 4 or 5 on Winston, and he'd shown multiple times that he had no respect for, well, basically anyone. I'm definitely not an Ohio State apologist, but look at some of the past Iowa teams and their run-ins with the law. I think Meyer was fairly even-handed in this punishment. He's a kid that made a stupid decision. He's being punished legally, financially, and has to sit a game right after he won the QB1 spot on the #1 ranked team in the nation. I just don't see this as a big deal.

Agreed, I think this punishment is sufficient. Everything else I hear about the kid is that he really is a great person and just made a really dumb decision. Not like Dantonio who said that the weekend his player spent in jail (during a bye week) was sufficient punishment, but he'll go the extra mile and make him sit out a series.

Pretty sure KF's standard suspension for a first-time offender/rulebreaker is one game for an OWI. He's given more serious punishment if the player has had team discipline problems.

Speaking of, this team, this year, has been remarkably good at staying out of trouble.

Didn't Jok get like 2 games for his which is even less for basketball. I think we are reaching here.

You hush.

The inmates run the prison at MSU.

Dude barely blew over .8. Chances are, if this happened 3 months later, (21st birthday) he wouldn't have even been charged.

Pulling a scholarship should never be part of a punishment. Unless of course the kids is being released from the team. That action runs counter to the term student athlete.
