Well, as many of the recruiting junkies know, this friday night at midnight marks the official start of July. Which also marks when college coaches can officially discuss financials with potential recruits. Just for fun; who do y'all think the coaching staff will be targeting as the highest priorities to visit this weekend?

Just my guess, but i'll say that M* and Berhow (Berhow can get on the recruiting trail, right?) make a stop in Indiana to pay a visit to Mr. Parris and his family. Then after Indiana they will roll right into Ohio to pay a visit to Mr. Rocky Jordan. While Tom & Terry look to further their PA connection and visit Sasso & Hidlay, as well as Teasdale. I believe the coaching staff is still recruiting Teasdale, but they have an uphill task in trying to re-flip him.

Also, Tom will show up at Nelsons doorstep at midnight, simply to fend off any potential advances by Cael!

Great post. Very curious where Sammy Sasso lands as a Lehigh Valley fan. Hear it's
a two team race with you guys and The Buckeyes. He's super talented with room to physically and mentally mature(as are most kids) as well, will be a great get.

and then take a flight down to Florida and hit up Silva

A great recruiting story from the good old days. Iowa had locked-up Alex Karras but needed to "protect" him over the summer from the Caels and Tommy Ryans of the day -

The recruitment of Alex Karras to Iowa by Evashevski's staff is the stuff of Hawkeye lore.

Karras was from Gary, Ind. Evashevski flew Karras to Spencer, Iowa, to keep him away from recruiters of Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State and others.

"They figured nobody would know where the hell Spencer was," Karras told the Des Moines Register 36 years ago. "I did a lot of fishing up there and nobody found me."

Recruiting was different then.

A quick cup of coffee with Izzy on their way out East wouldn't be a bad idea. 3 wrestlers in the top 61 according to FLO. I hear Tucson is nice this time of year as well (it's a dry heat).

They can get themselves some carne asada tacos with a couple of Sonoran hot dogs from Guero Canelos or BK (not Burger King)

Trust me (I'm originally from Spencer), even if those other coaches knew how to get there, they wouldn't of wanted to go...lol!!

Berhow can't make in home recruiting visits. Let Berhow and Perry run practice, while Tom, Terry, and Morningstar hit the road. A top class here puts us in the title conversation for years, but we have a lot of work to do. If we miss on this class, we will stay where we have been. We have no choice but to succeed, and our coaches know that.

I'm sure Mr. Karras spent a good bit of time in Okoboji that summer, a short trip from Spencer.

As for top targets:
1. Sammy Sasso
2. Mason Parris
3. Joel Shapiro
4. Trent Hidlay
5. Teasdale/RBY/Teske/Woods
6. Rocky Jordan

Hardy, Lewan, Cassioppi, Cashman, Montalvo, Duggan, and Patrick are also on the list but probably not as high as the guys listed above.

I listed them in the order that I believe the staff is pursuing them. Give me 3 of those guys to go along with Nelson and I will be a happy camper. 149, HWT, and 133 are the biggest weight needs, but we have been going hard after Shapiro and Hidlay, which would both provide much needed upper weight depth and talent.

GIVE ME PARRIS (OR SCHULTZ)! We need one of those grizzly bears in the line up, and I don't care which. I know Schultz is not technically a recruit until next year, I'm just saying.

3. Paris
4. Woods
5. R. Jordan

I think Shapiro is ours and we definitely need to be on the phone with him immediately but while on the way to PA & IL/IN/OH.

I just did a tour of the canyons last week. Typical afternoon was 110, with forest fires. The only thing dry heat does is keep your shirt dry as you lose all your water. It was HOT.

I would send Spencer along out East with Tom and Terry as well. Is that breaking any rules? Heard Royce Alger was with Gable when he recruited TnT.

I think Spencer and a one of the T's need to go down to Tucson and enjoy the warm weather, some carne asada tacos, a nice cold Eegee's (it's a Tucson thing) and a discussion with RBY. But that's just my humble opinion.

Good to hear from you Flap and hope to see more of your posts.

Hey now! As 4409 knows, I'm originally from Spencer as well, and I think it's a great place to be from or visit! If I live long enough to retire I'm heading back there as well (at least for the warm months if I can afford to go South in the winter! LOL! - jury is still out on that one.....).

The Shine's pretty much hid Karras up at their Lake Okoboji property I think, but they are from Spencer (12 miles away). And the Okoboji area is awesome as well! They have always been huge Hawk fans obviously, and they did manage to pull it off with Karras. So kudo's to them all those years ago.

Guess we should have had them "housing" Teasdale for a couple of years up in Okoboji too! ;)

Damn been off HR for a few days and expected Parris, Sasso, Hidlay and a flip from Teasdale already completed in the Hawks direction;).

HiWillie and Gobblin can you give some insight?! Saw PSU went down to Arizona so hoping Teasdale noticed the lack of respect and decided he wanted to be a 4x national champ at IOWA now!:)
