The young guns beat the vets in both games on the backs of very solid Hawkeye performances all around.

Glad to see: 1) Kriener first man up the floor twice 2) Pemsl: 11-12 27 pts and 11 boards 3) Dailey's jumper is sooooo smooth 4) Cook's handles 5) Till scored the 2nd most points for his team on the 6th most shots

Tyler Cook was 5/11 on 3's? Is the 3pt shot part of his game? I thought he was pretty much a banger down low.

I think it's more something he is working hard to add to his arsenal. I recall when he committed he said that Fran wanted him to work on extending his range.

So from the people who have watched Cook, do you think he's staying all four years in college?
Cook looks like he has the talent to be our first early entry guy in... how long? However, it certainly won't be after his first year. He's got to make those 3s he's making in the PTL on a regular basis and establish himself as a player first. For the profile of the program, I hope he does go early... after his junior year.

If Cook really is that good, I hope we are having so much success and he is having so much fun, that he stays all four years.

I don't recall ever seeing in any of Cook's highlight videos from high school him taking outside jumpers or taking people off the dribble. I know it's PTL where defense is usually an after thought, but Mr. Cook is showing a different dimension to his game I had no idea existed.

I hate making predictions for kids but I think the sky is the limit for Cook.

The thing that amazes me about Cook is that he makes everything look effortless. PTL or not, it is really something. I also love the fact that if he is even remotely close to the rim, he seems to have one thing on his mind, ATTACK it. There will certainly be growing pains with the young players, but there definitely seems to be some attitude and swag. I like it. I am guessing practices are going to be rather spirited once they get rolling.

Looks like all the "bigs" have been playing good in PTL. And that's a good thing!

Cook may be a better version of Caleb Swanigan at Purdue, and "Biggie" was a consensus 5 star recruit. I'm excited for Cook. He's really athletic and seems to understand what Fran wants out of him in terms of getting up and down the floor. If he stays all four years, we could have some loaded teams by the time he's a junior or senior.

Cook is more Julius Randle than Caleb Swanigan. Big, quick, physical face up four.

Really love Cook's game, seems to have a great motor and nice handles and attacks on O. Hopefully his D game is similar. Rare potential with this one.

If Cook is all that, I hope that he has the presence of mind and anticipation of Aaron White. Beating people down the court for some spectacular things.

He seems to have the athleticism. Now get your head right. Unless it already is. Then, just disregard this.

Saw Cook play a few times in high school here in MO.

He was a beast in the paint and did most his damage there but he had a pretty nice 12-15 ft jumper. He rarely took that shot as he didn't need to but he had a smooth stroke and you could see the potential to knock down the perimeter shot consistently if he worked on it.

The thing I love about Pemsl and Cook and even Kriener is how they appear to be BIG ready bodies. Both Pemsl and Cook are around the 235-240 mark and are skilled.

We will not have a shortage of options for the post spots this year, that's for sure.

One reporter, talking about Cook's play, mentioned his guarding Jok for a while on defense. Jok did not score the entire time Cook was guarding him. PJ is not the quickest. But he will be quicker than any 4 Cook will play. That perked my ears. It definitely told us something.

Cook is showing more offense than we knew about. I was going to say he is a good year or so off from developing a solid, consistent outside shot. But he looks like he has a decent one going already. When he polishes that outside shot, look out!

What really amazes me looking at all these PTL videos, is his ability to take it with his left just as easily as with his right. And he does it very well. Let's hope he is here to get a degree. His junior and senior years we will have a heck of team. Probably his sophomore year as well, considering we will only lose Jok in that time.

Fran is putting a great product on the table. This is going to be a good ride...

Cook 6'9" 253lbs.
Kriener 6'9" 247lbs.
Pemsl 6'8" 249lbs.

Yes...this is SIZE we've not had much of

This thread is the Breakfast of Champions! Really puts meat on my bones and sticks to my ribs!

I can't wait to watch our Hawkeyes develop under Fran and staff's tutelage!

Now, does anyone remember the reach of our freshman forwards? Seems to me, with my weak memory often fuzzy...

Kriener around 7'1"
Cook seems like was above 7'
Pemsl something like 6'10"

?????????? Anyone got more accurate info?

I'm assuming you're meaning wingspan not reach?

Kriener has 7'2"
Cook measured 6'11.5" at Nike Basketball Acadamy in 2015
Pemsl measured 6'10" at Nike Elite 100 but that was back in 2014 when he was also only 6'6"

Good post 69. Cook is showing me a LOT more than what I was expecting mainly that stroke from the outside beyond the 3 line....not as good now as it's going to be but wow today. He is going to be a very special player and the way he can take it to the rim maybe better with his left than his right with the improvement of that outside shot would make him a player that will be very hard to stop on the D end. I know D is very suspect in this league but it's funny to watch some very good players try to get in his way and it ain't happening. Now he is stepping out and hitting the 3 shot too so what the heck do you do? Great for Iowa.

Not that I disagree with anything said here, but wasn't it about a month ago everyone was worried that the Hawks wouldn't have anyone to match up with all the bigs in the B1G?

The play I like the best from the highlights in this thread is the one where he almost tips it in the then goes right back up QUICK and puts it right in soft above the rim. That is the type of play we haven't seen at Iowa much in the last several years.
