Recruiting is important. All the other stuff needs to be done too but I just wish the team would spend a considerable amount of time competing in freeste/Greco events this off season. All the practice in the world does not beat competing.
It would be a great way to improve offense skills under pressure when there is nothing really to lose.

So let's get the recruits, lift lots of weight, hire/fire whoever but for God sake let's take the next seven months and compete.

I believe we are getting the recruits and I believe we do need to get into the weight room. If you hire someone that usually means you have to fire someone. If I'm a wrestler though, I'm going to take some time off. It's called a "vacation". We take vacations so the wrestlers should be entitled to take some time off. After all, they don't want to be accused of peaking to early and being worn out.

Hey, I'm not taking a vacation! I started working immediately toward next season!

Nice to some folks waking up out of the"never question anything the Brands do" coma's.

I wish i could repost all of my "negative" recruiting posts from last spring.

SteelerMC I like ya buddy. But You really think we were getting the recruits?

The sad reality was Brands and Zaddick werent getting anything accomplished on recruiting since Doug left and basically we have nothing to show for it from Clarks grade until just recent. And I credit some of that to M* for actaully having someone do the leg work that brands ego didnt think they needed to do. Really only have Sorenson to show for 3 years. And he would have signed with Iowa no matter who was the coach. I was less than thrilled with Stoll, Gross and Padduck as headliners for a class. If that excited some of you...then I dont even now what to say. Im not going to harp on the kids anymore. At some point its not Jeva or Kelly's fault that the coach starts them. Its on the coach. Its on the coach when not a single backup can beat out a crippled up Nick Moore.

Quite frankly I am tired of posting about this and just await how this staff does this year because its going to tell me a ton about the direction of this program. The staff has finally stopped waiting for kids to come to them because we are mighty Iowa and started moving east and into the right programs and clubs. We got footholds in the right factories now and I do love me some Kem, Bull, and Mejia but that simply cant be the book by itself. Another few chapters must be added. Its crystal clear its about recruiting and its been clear for some time.

Some of you need to quite thinking like Brands that you can buy a buick and turn it into a corvette every time. How about get a corvette and turn it into a legend that get you 25+ points like a madman at nationals by itself. 2 of those and your at 50 team points and your in cruise control.

Now why has this staff missed out on so many top 10 P4P guys. Thats a rabbit hole im not sure you want to hear about. Better just get your popcorn and in Brands you trust!

Easy on the Buick's there Champ! Love my Riviera's!

I think Iowa is in a decent spot!? I predicted 4 finalist this year...Gilman, Clark, Sorenson and Telford...I think? I know I predicted 9 AAs, which was insane. However, I filled out each bracket without bias and that is what I came up with.

You lose a few guys, and IMO, it had to do with the tourney winning this year. I do however feel that you guys aren't Wrestling your best at Nationals anymore. This leads me to believe it isn't the horse, but the trainer.

I think if all the young recruits that we have stay committed we will have the talent in place in the future...I recently watched some old Iowa Matches and can tell that we looked much more conditioned and stronger back then. Between Evans and Jeva this year they just looked sickly out there......

Love Kemerer. Love Marinelli. Love Mejia and Renteria. Those are Ferraris.

But keep in mind that they won't all be in the lineup together until 2018-19--after Gilman, Clark, Sorensen, Meyer, and Brooks have all graduated.

Our title hopes for the next few years depend on either Gross, Paddock or Stoll evolving into a multi-time NCAA champ. No pressure or anything, but that'll be an awfully fast Buick.

It doesn't look good for Gross being a starter. By the way, several people in the room were beating Moore prior to Nationals. Brands just hoped that Moore would snap out of it and produce. His injury was not his biggest problem. Moore was burned out.

thom,

Is this due to quality depth (good problem) or because he may not be with the program (bad problem).

If we had another option who was wrestling better than Moore then we shoould have used them. We needed to be all in to win it this year. We did not have the sure top end points to afford to sand bag weights. I doubt anyone on here felt he was going to snap out of it, he looked toasted all year. Goblin confirmed other guys who performed a lot better where hurt as bad or worse than Moore. Also it was mentioned by another he had stated he could not wait for the season to be over. Our non production from 157 amd 165 hurt a lot and better planning to make a competitive situation for those weights would have been much better.
