Hard to have an election when 20% of the country is occupied and cities and infrastructure under attack. Also not a good time to change a government. The kidnap videos are mostly fake Russian propaganda though some may be the arrest of draft dodgers. The churches were those used by the Russians to foment trouble and send intelligence on Ukraine. There is always restrictions on the press during wartime, even here in the US. Don't know all the stories on the journalists but I would venture that at least a few were working for Russian intelligence.
If you google arrested Ukraine journalists you find articles on those arrested in occupied parts of Ukraine-the Russians arrested them.
If you google arrested priests you find that at least one was only put under house arrest for inflaming religious views and encouraging the Russian invasion.
And most of the billions "sent" to Ukraine remains in the US to replace weapon sent there or purchase future weapons to send there.
Either this will work brilliantly(I doubt), or it could very well kill the Republican Party if the Dems get their messaging on point when all of these actions cause catastrophic consequences.

My only (likely unrealistic and wrong) hope is that this is an arm twist to get Ukraine immediately to the negotiating table, but the twist will be released if Russia doesn’t play ball and make big concessions. Trump has publicly mentioned we can’t pause and have a repeat in a few years, so I hope he doesn’t just gobble up whatever bs Putin puts out.
