Contraceptions

Justice Clarence Thomas argued in a concurring opinion released on Friday that the Supreme Court “should reconsider” its past rulings codifying rights to contraception access, same-sex relationships and same-sex marriage.

The GOP has lost it's fricking mind. Time for a 3rd Party that is socially moderate, fiscally conservative and libertarian in philosophy.

To paraphrase Goldwater, the gov needs to stay out of your bedroom and out of your wallet.

I really doubt that happens but this is a terrible look for the SCOTUS. The one group that absolutely should not have political party ties is the Supreme Court.

OP, sign me up for that 3rd party. It's not about "winning" or owning the other side. It's supposed to be about America and coming together.

I think gay marriage is safe. Obergefell didn’t say that gay marriage specifically is a fundamental right. It reaffirmed that marriage is a fundamental right, a right that cannot be denied to same-sex couples under equal protection. If the Court would somehow attempt to overrule Obergefell and single out gay marriage specifically on SDP grounds, then the Court would have absolutely no remaining legitimacy, and it would be time to hit reset on the system.

If the Dems are smart, and they aren't, they'll run ad after ad attacking the GOP on abortion, gay rights, and contraception. Paint the attack on gay rights as an attack on everyone, if they can ban things two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home they can also ban w/e you do in your bedroom. Religious zealots deciding your love life, interfering with your family. Doesn't matter if most GOPers wouldn't support that, they put people in power that do.

Any chance Thomas is just a legal purist? Has nothing against contraception, gay marriage, etc., but just thinks from a legal standpoint the cases were decided wrong?
It isn’t for him to decide, though, which cases should be brought to the court. And he certainly can’t pick and choose which cases he personally has issues with. He very clearly crossed a line.

The GOP has lost its mind? Because Clarence Thomas? Is the GOP rallying around banning contraception and same sex marriage?

I can't find it but there is a great scene in "She's Having a Baby" with Kevin Bacon & Elizabeth McGovern that seems like where Thomas wants to take it with gov being in the bedroom. Kevin Bacon has a dream where his Father In Law is watching the young couple having sex and he says, "No, no, no. You are doing it all wrong. Get your butt up higher."

Exactly! Here’s a perfect example how my party leadership is dumber than it’s voters. The Republican party is the opposite. Smart politicians. Dumb voters. Republicans just kick Democrats ass in the political long game. It’s embarrassing.
