Maybe Im an a$$hole for not crying along with this person, but Iowa has had floods and derechos that made a huge mess out of a lot of cities. Everyone got to work, helped their neighbors and made the best out of an awful situation. Never saw anyone was waiting around crying for the government to come save them.
The derecho was bad, but this is at an entirely different level of bad...
The Iowa floods were bad but were still no where on the scale of this. How many Iowa towns were cut off from food and water for days?
All the red states are begging for socialism now.
I don't know, just know what my community experienced. But since this is grand scale, what exactly is the government supposed to do? It isn't like they have unlimited manpower and resources that can get to remote areas when trees and powerlines are down across several states. Airdrops?

Ironically, some of the same people who are critical of those who take government handouts, AND also the same people who openly criticize democrats for being socialist, communist and Marxist.
They’re not the people who openly criticize democrats. FYI Asheville is the “bluest” city in NoCar. It’s a beautiful charming city with a large number of artists and creative people who have made it a lively and lively place. Or it was. 😟
When disasters on this scale occur it’s not “socialist or Marxist” for a government to assist survivors who pay taxes.

I've been to Ashville and totally disagree about it being the "bluest" city in NC. I'd argue that Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham are much, much blue-er. I was just there in August. People like you tend to cherry-pick when socialism is a good thing, and it almost always relates to when one in some sort of crisis. Be it a natural disaster or some other catastrophic life event.
