Iowa faces Kansas at 6pm on Tuesday and 3pm on Wednesday in Iowa City. Kansas is pretty tough and it would be nice to get a midweek win or two. The pitching situation should be interesting, especially with a Fri-Sun series against NW coming up. A series that I would consider pretty big.

its too bad there are 2 games mid week. very tough on pitching and with a short turnaround.

1 rainout would be nice.....

out after 2 1/3 innings. strange. not sure if he tightened up or if he was not in command. they scored 2 on consecutive hits on his replacement.

No command, he walked 5 and hit one. Two earned runs are credited to him. You can't walk the leadoff man, can't walk the bases loaded or even walk guys to 1st and 2nd. All of which happened tonight. If Hickman can't find some control, I think he could be pretty salty.

Thanks. not enough details on twitter to be able to tell what happened

Iowa wins 5-3 against Kansas.

Sasha Kuebel pitched in relief and went 5 2/3 giving up 8 hits and 1 run, 6 K's and no walks. He got the W. Tyler Radtke pitched the 9th with a walk, DP, and K to get the save.

Dan Potempa was Iowa's clutch hitter tonight as he went 2-3 with 4 RBIs. Potempa had a huge 2-out 3 RBI double in the 5th inning. He also had a RBI single in the 7th.

Eric Toole was 2-4 with an RBI and 2 runs. Jake Mangler was 2-4 with one run.

The thing that drives you crazy about tonights game is that Iowa had a chance to do A LOT more damage offensively than 5 runs, we strike out WAY too much with guys in scoring position. Need to find a way to put the ball in play.

Iowa left 11 on base, Iowa needs to be better in those bases loaded situations and situations where we have guys at 2nd and/or 3rd with 0 and 1 outs. We can't continue to strike out in these situations.

Also, any idea on who is starting against KU on Wednesday? If a guy like Andrew Hedrick comes in, I assume that means Kuebel and Hedrick will not be starting this weekend? Does a guy like Matt Allen possibly get thrown into the weekend rotation after his effort against Indiana?

who does KU play this weekend. im wondering what their pitching looks like going into tomorrow.

both staffs could be on fumes tomorrow

Iowa beats Kansas 12-7 this afternoon and sweeps the two game series.

Iowa was great on offense today with 18 hits. Iowa got those timely hits today with runners in scoring position that they have been lacking.

Eric Toole was 4-5 with 2 runs and 5 RBIs
Jake Mangler was 2-5 with 1 run and 3 RBIs
Dan Potempa was 2-4 with 1 RBI
Kris Goodman was 2-3 with 2 RBIs
Jake Yacinich was 4-5 with 3 runs
Tyler Peyton was 2-5
Taylor Zeutenhorst was 1-5 with an RBI

Iowa had doubles in the game from Mangler x2, Potempa, and Jimmy Frankos

Iowa's pitching was just EH as Kansas had 14 hits of their own. Andrew Hedrick went 4 2/3 giving up four runs, Reinhardt went 2 innings allowing one run, and Jared Mandel went 2 1/3 innings allowing two runs. Iowa allowed KU to hit two homeruns today.

With that being said, getting two wins over KU is great! Now Iowa needs to go to Northwestern this weekend and win that series! I am wondering if Matt Allen might not start this weekend with Hedrick and Kuebel both having long outings.

Iowa is now 18-12 on the season.

That's an intriguing thought and I'd bet you're right.
