I get why everyone is lamenting the impact on the mid-majors. I do. But why is it that coaches can cash in with success at lower levels but players can't? Fran parlayed success at Siena into multiple millions per year at Iowa. Holtman had a nice gig at Butler, he is getting paid way more at OSU. Archie Miller, for his 4-year failure at Indiana, at least did get paid quite handsomely for making the jump from a mid-major. He should be rich for the rest of his life. None of those coaches had to sit out a year to coach. If they had buyouts, they weren't paid for by the coaches themselves but by the school they were going to.
But if a player is really good at a mid-major, he can't go to a larger school if he can do so? Again, I'm not staying it's a perfect situation or that I even agree with the no sit-out approach to transfers. But it's at least a bit more honest when everyone can do what's best for them, coaches and players. I don't think there is a right answer for controlling movement. It's not going to be reversed.
