A Kansas health official says counties with mask mandates reduced coronavirus case numbers, while case numbers remained steady in areas that don’t require face coverings.

While new confirmed coronavirus cases across Kansas have trended downward, Dr. Lee Norman, the secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, said Wednesday that COVID-19 case reductions could be attributed to the 15 counties that require masks. Those include Wyandotte, Johnson, Sedgwick and Shawnee.

Those counties, Norman said, represent about two-thirds of the state’s population and tend to have denser urban populations and a greater proportion of people from underrepresented backgrounds who are more likely to contract the virus and face complications.

Even though Gov. Laura Kelly announced a mask mandate in public buildings as case numbers across the state soared in early July, about 80% of the state’s 105 counties refused to comply with the executive order, mainly opting for mask recommendations instead. In total, 90 counties did not institute a mask mandate, Norman said.

“Some counties have been the control group with no mask and some counties have been the experimental group where masks are worn,” Norman said, “and the experimental group is winning the battle. All of the improvement in the case development comes from those counties wearing masks.”

Or for the Ohio Governor.
That apparently turned out to be a false positive.

And even if DeWine has/had the virus, no one is saying that masks guarantee you won’t catch it. Masks don’t completely stop the spread, they limit the spread.

If someone who’s wearing a seat belt dies in a car accident, it doesn’t mean we should all stop wearing our seat belts.

Too sensible.

we are showing declines here in austin. and it has been hot. i bet it is hot in ks... the heat kills this thing more than a mask does

Good stuff.

Too bad our federal "experts" told us early on that masks didn't help.

I don't think so.

The southern states had big spikes while the heat was nasty too.

How long are you going to play this card? They didn't want the public hoarding masks that were already in short supply and, at the time, there was still discussion over the virus being airborne. As soon as that was resolved and it was clear that proper homemade masks were effective at limiting the spread, they recommended masks.

Bottom line...wear the damn mask and quit making up reasons to not wear one. Simple, huh?

the mask is all about control. telling people to comply

But we should also keep in mind we can't be reckless just because we are wearing a seatbelt.

I think the narrative needs to change, however. All masks aren't effective. Just wearing an ill fitting piece of single ply cloth doesn't help much, especially if people wearing it think they don't have to social distance, and others around them don't social distnce either.
