Did I read on here (somewhere around Rose Bowl time) someone discussion neutral site games in the future? I believe someone posted a link to Barta saying Kansas City and Chicago could be possibilities with some great opponents. Any further word / speculation on that? Obviously, you'd have to think Kansas City means playing Mizzou. A game in Chicago could be NIU again or (maybe a long shot but...) possibly Notre Dame?

That would be great as long as the other team is willing to give up the home game.

A neutral site game in KC against Mizzou or Kansas St would be awesome
prolly a longshot, but how about a game against Oklahoma or Arkansas in KC...I get why another game against KSU in Arrowhead would be awesome, or a game against Mizzu would be entertaining.Just looking a little farther "out of the box"..

I still don't think we're going to be playing Mizzou anytime soon outside of a bowl game.

Iowa won't be scheduling OU as long as Stoops is the head coach. He still bleeds black and gold and doesn't want to play his alma mater.

I am all for it. I would give up an Iowa home game to go to Chicago or St Louis or Kansas City for a game. Hell if they do that, they should look to bring in an SEC or PAC 12 team to play. I am sorry but playing the ACC is getting old. Also I realize Iowa is losing a non-conf game now with the Big 10 going to 9 games, but then they need to start scheduling tougher teams.

I went to Arrowhead in 2000 and both the Soldier Field games and they were all fun. I suggest a 2-game series, home and "home" with Colorado, with the Buffaloes' "home" game in Mile High Stadium. Colorado is gorgeous in the early fall. It'd be like a September bowl trip for Midwest Hawk fans, plus there are thousands of former Iowans living along the front range in Colorado. The 1992 game in Boulder was a blast - even if the outcome did not go our way. If CU would go along with it, UI should try and make it happen.

This is a great idea. Iowa's home game could be held in Chicago or St. Louis because that is where Iowa's most fertile recruiting grounds are. Then Colorado's home game would be in Denver which I assume is Colorado's go to recruiting spot.

A game against Colorado makes too much sense for it to happen :) plus Kirk doesn't want to play west of the Missouri River unless forced to do so i.e. bowl game.

A ton of us hawk fans in the Rocky mtn region...whether basketball or football, playing out here would be fantastic but doubt it happens.

Not sure if it's on Barta's radar but I hear there's a stadium down in St. Louis that should be free every weekend for a while...
I think st Louis are would be a much better option as far as area that helps recruiting goes.

Iowa has had very good success in St Louis and obviously Illinois is right next door.

KC does nothing for Iowa recruiting/geography as far as that goes.

Guys like Christian Ballard (Lawrence), current Hawk-Mends, and punter/kicker-Jackson Terry, are from the KC area. They were involved with a top KC kid-AJ Taylor- in the recent class. They currently are involved in the recruitment of another top player from KC for the 2017 class..Saying KC " does nothing for Iowa recruiting" would be an uninformed opinion.

Ok. I should have said "does little" instead of "does nothing".

St Louis would be exponentially better than KC. That is really my point. We don't really recruit Kansas. We hardly recruit wester Missouri, but we recruit the hell out of St Louis and Illinois.

Iowa recruits in Kansas/Kc/Western MO...look at the offers in these areas from 2013-2017 classes, so far...Who recruits St Louis now that Coach Ried is gone? Wallace,Woods, and Kennedy have all spent time recruiting in the areas I listed above recently..Fwiw, Iowa offered 3-4 kids in KS, in last year's class..

I wouldn't travel anywhere in the midwest(outside IC) to see it....but I'd make the trip to watch a sept Iowa game at mile high :D

Edit: Chicago wouldn't be too bad either if the cubbies are in town that weekend

there would probably be more Iowa fans at Mile High than Colorado fans and that isn't an exaggeration, so I doubt Colorado would have much interest in doing this as it wouldn't benefit them in recruiting either. That program has really fallen and fan support has slowly eroded over the course of the past two decades, CU football is not even in the top 10 locally in Denver as it relates to most interesting and compelling sports in the area and region. While playing at a pro stadium would cool, I would much rather Iowa have a home and home with Colorado played in Boulder or perhaps a 2 for 1 with CSU and/or Air Force at their home stadiums. I don't think a game against Colorado would move the needle much on the national level so doubt this would be of much interest to networks and those that own and operate Mile High Stadium. It would be pretty sweet though, I suspect I would get an opportunity to purchase tickets in advance as I'm a Broncos season ticket holder.

I wonder if Barta and/or Fran has explored a home and home with Colorado, it really would be sweet to have the Hawks playing out here with so many alums and Iowa natives living in the state. If Colorado didn't work out, I'm pretty sure the UofI could broker a pretty sweet deal if they agreed to a 2 for 1 with the University of Denver, CSU and/or Air Force.

Make it happen Gary! :)

Granted, the Buffs were hot at the time, but the '92 game at Folsom Field was an extremely tough ticket. Sports Authority at Mile High has 20k+ more seats than Boulder and more room for Hawk fans. I am not sure the Univ of Denver still has football. But a 2 for 1 with Air Force or CSU would be cool, too. I just think, given the number of Iowans in CO, the time of year and the destination, a Sept game in Denver whomever the opponent would be great.

Iowa/CU could move the needle nationally if it were played at Mile High/Soldier Field. Get a sponsor for the game and brand it as a kick-off weekend type deal. Schools like CU are much more reasonable for Iowa to schedule than the Florida's of the world.

We'll have to agree to disagree. The CU vs. CSU Mile High Showdown that has traditionally kicked off the season locally can't even half fill Mile High Stadium these days. CU is irrelevant locally and nationally and have been for years, so I doubt you would get a corporate sponsor that is going to really care about an Iowa vs. CU game at Mile High or Soldier Field. CU can't even fill their own stadium(averaged 38k in paid attendance 2014, would bet money it was lower in 2015) do you think many CU fans are going to travel to Soldier to get blasted by Iowa? I think the game would be great on each schools campus though.

When I saw more the needle, I don't think it is going to rival any of the other big time kick offs games that are taking place like Bama/Wisc. But it would be a nice P5 matchup in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains in an NFL stadium that ESPN might do a nice little segment covering on Gameday or something. It would help if CU wasn't such a dumpster fire. As far as CU attendance goes, I don't care if 60k Hawkeye fans fill up Mile High and Soldier Field. I'd actually prefer it.

There aren't really a whole lot of other P5 options that are realistic for NFL stadiums.

*Edit: How about Iowa/Arkansas in St. Louis?

I was at the 92 game in Boulder I don't know why you would want to move it from there one of the most beautiful locations I have been to.

Agree. Keep it on campus. Boulder is one of the most beautiful settings in the US. The sight of Ralphie running around the stadium is one of the best traditions in all of college football. Tickets would not be hard to get and it is an easy drive for anyone to make. Air Force has a beautiful setting as well. Would love to see the Hawks out here again.

Then your against because it's impossible to give up a home game with the 9 game B1G schedule unless we dump the ISU series.

Giving up a home game is not required to stage a neutral site game. See the 2012 Soldier Field game against NIU.

That was before we had a 9 game big 10 schedule. With the 8 game big ten schedule we could play an out of conference away game on the years we played ISU at home and still have 7 home games. That is no longer the case starting next year.

We are not discussing away games. We're discussing one-off neutral site games. They are still possible with 9/ISU. OOC HaH are not possible, but we're not discussing that.

I think you might as well have an Iowa game at the Viikings US Bank Stadium. Play NDSU again or UNI there. I am sure a big crowd would show up. This place will have Jerry World like features. There will be a two block park next door, and the old Armory is being turned into an indoor event space. Several new hotels are going up nearby so it will not be as dead as the old Metrodome area. Lots of Iowa and NDSU fans live in MN, so it would be fun. I'd probably go to the game.

This camera has some live pics. The giant windows and doors are partially covered right now to the view of downtown is somewhat limited, but it will be fairly open feeling.

Yup lets spend the money in Minneapolis instead of Iowa City.right.

I would love nothing more than to dump the ISU series, but the BOR has made that impossible. I absolutely HATE that game on our schedule. If (and this is a big if) the Big XII ends up dissolving, and little brother moves to the Mtn West or something similar, would we still have to play them?

I'd love to see Nebraska-Iowa at a neutral site like Kansas City. 5 hours (I think) from Iowa City, and 3 from Lincoln. I'm sure there are tons of alums from both schools living there. It would bring great attention to The Heroes game. That stadium is set up pretty well for tailgating too. You guys think the game would sell well there?
