Within all of this madness that is the 2020-2021 Iowa Hawkeyes, with Luka as a POTY candidate, and Wieskamp drawing attention and CJ Frederick coming into his own, and J-Bo promoting his podcast while not making NBA range 3s............there's a young 2nd generation player by the name of Keegan Murray, who, after tonight's game against Northwestern, may not be the best-kept secret in Iowa City anymore.

Murray is playing the college game well beyond the level of a freshman, and even when he makes freshman mistakes, they are quickly forgiven through his effort and hustle, an attribute this team has absolutely needed through the years, and has been provided by such guys as Nicholas Baer and Aaron White, etc.

If Murray can continue to develop and build his confidence, forget about the future.....this loaded 2020-2021 roster in the middle of a push for a Big Ten title, may have found its X factor.

P.S. Thank you, Kenyon. ;)

KM is a stud. It's fun remembering he is a freshman and will get even better!

I thought PMac had a great game too.

In a team that's pretty loaded, the Hawks have two freshman making contributions. 😊
I also like the chemistry those two seem to have when on the floor together. Gonna be fun to watch these younger players develop and hopefully shine once the spotlight shifts to them in the coming years.

I think that when you look at Keegan & Kris Murray, and then Patrick.....you have three guys who are long and athletic. With Nunge in the middle and the quickness of Joe T at PG we are looking at a team that can take our defensive play to a whole new level. We have a team that can play defense, run the court at a high level, and should be a good rebounding team......Next year should be really exciting and I think better than some expect. We just need to make sure that our half court offense is good. CJ might be the centerpiece for that next year....very bright future.

All that said, this year is a lot of fun.

Keep hoping Kris can kick it up a notch. Would love to see them both making a difference out on the court, not only this year, but for years to come.
As Kenyon has pointed out for us a couple of times, Kris isn't playing because there is really no spot for him currently, NOT because he is that far behind Keegan. Keegan has taken that 4 spot that we needed filled and an occasional couple of minutes at the 3. Kris , who is probably a few pounds lighter, has been assigned basically as a 3 so he's sitting behind Joe W, Pmac, and occasionally Keegan and even CJF depending on the current rotation. His turn will come, just like Ulis.....

That's consistent with my understanding of Kris's game based on what I have read or heard. So, in summary I think Kris is just as athletic and just as good of a defender as Keegan....but his skills are more that of a slashing three who might not be quite as good of a three point shooter....but better at driving. Just think of these guys with another year in the weight room, a year of practice against a high level team under their belt, a year of acclimation to college and this program. I think that we will be DEEP in talented forwards and guards.....and just need to add some depth in the post.

Kris actually had higher vertical and was more explosive coming in. Keegan has improved his vertical by over 4” since getting on campus.

Once Kris gets in the rotation (which he will) I think they should switch jerseys from time to time....talk about screwing up the opponents scouting report. Would that be a violation?

Maybe they could spread their fouls out? Fran could play Keegan with 3 fouls in the first half right now....and he could start the second half with none..😁

Hat's off to Keegan for staying with the play after a missed layup by CJ at 3:34 left in the first half. Keegan went for the rebound and stayed with it against 3 Gophers as CJ and Weezy backed up to midcourt and the other 2 players were already on the other end. Well done Ke!

Ke Murray was a little tentative and out of control on offense. Freshmen are like that sometimes. But he didn't let that affect the rest of his game. As noted, 12 boards, and off the ground for a couple of those. Diving on the floor, getting some ball stops. Keegan is a very good ball player and I think he's at an earlier part of his developmental curve with much better play ahead.

Even though he struggled a bit putting the ball through the net, I thought Keegan stayed pretty aggressive..meaning it didn't appear he got discouraged. I love that.

Everything else you said? Yes. He's a hustler, rebounder, diver...

Really, really like #15.

This guy is pro material and Kenyon and Keegan, if you are reading this, I would love to be your agent.
