Kelvin Bell and Blair started following

Was it Houston that senior and junior players called it quits for 2019 after playing 4 games and hoping that 2020 was better suited for a winning season?

I know that we need more "short term" depth and firepower at DE (given AJ's presumed departure ... and the fact that Golston is likely "testing the waters" too) ... so it is prudent to be appraised of the DE talent who might fit our needs schematically (we execute a 2-gap scheme). However, with that said, I still wonder if the coaches were following Michael Thompson's departure from OU too. He was a DT recruit we were after from the St. Louis area ... and after he suffered an injury with the Sooners ... he ultimately was moved over to the OL. I wonder if he could be a "fit" for the Hawks?

they are probably following a number of players at this time of year. I could see interested in immediate/grad transfers at: DL, OL, Punter, LB for the right guy.

Yeah ... on D my primary concerns are "firepower" on the DL ... and experience at MIKE. Punter is obviously a need too. As for OL ... it will be interesting to see if Jackson sticks around. The bigger issue I see for us on the OL concerns experienced depth at OT. I know our interior line play was sketchy in '19 ... but I think that all the injuries at least helped to develop some depth on the interior line. That will likely pay dividends downstream ... however, immediately, the bigger OL need is depth at OT.

No, our biggest need is a Mike linebacker! Doyle will be the next Hesse.

Jack Campbell will be in the mix for sure. May see Nieman at MLB too if Doyle moves to DE. Don’t see that happening but .....

Yeah, that's why I tweeted about it yesterday.

Iowa coaches are also following Stanford grad transfer Jovan Swann, who they recruited out of high school.
I remember Swann. I was bummed Iowa missed on him.

I didn't see your tweet but did see the notification that you and Kelvin were following Isaiah. He looks like he'd be an amazing grad transfer.

I read that most of the grad transfers for Stanford was because they didn't get accepted into their grad program.

I'm not sure I'd be interested in any of the OU defenders. They are just not very good. OU's track record is to outscore their opponent. Reference.....check their scores!

Speaking of punters, the ASU grad transfer was not exactly an upgrade. No wonder he was going to lose his job in Tempe. I really don't know why nobody else punted in a game this year because Iowa's punting, whether for distance or placement, was pretty weak. He was nowhere near the next Ron Coluzzi. Whoever takes over next season won't have a very high bar.

You don’t think he was an upgrade?

I’m not sure you’re going to get anyone to agree with you, Mr Rastetter.

Yeah, the 2019 and 2020 classes are stacked at DE, but they'll still be a little young next year (assuming AJ goes pro; god forbid Golston goes. Yikes!). A stop-gap DE would help with depth until the yung'uns grow into their bodies and get stronger, learn the system.

Iowa’s net average this year was higher than the gross average last year. Significant improvement. A surprising thing I saw was Iowa was second in the conference in punt returns.

Yeah, I remember Swann too. It would be cool if we could land him as a DE. Given Stanford's scheme ... he'd likely be a "fit" too.

‘^^^ This ^^^ Rastetter was horrible the previous two seasons and had no business being on the field. Yuuuge upgrade in the punting game this year.

Couple questions, was Ince recruited as a T or G? He rotated a fair amount at LG and wasn’t sure if that was to get game experience before he slid out to T.

Also, does Van Valkenberg (sp) have another year left? He played a sound DE and more than Waggoner

Watch the Wicsky game tape and see if you're still LOL.
They abused the kid's positioning and talent.
I don't doubt a RS Freshman had a bad game. I'm LOL'ing that you think he'll be nothing more than a special teams player for his next three seasons, when he was the backup this year on a top 10 defense.

I'm just disappointing I won't ever be able remember to bump this thread during his senior season.

We need a pass rusher for sure. Van Valkenburg was in an adjustment year but imo is more of a rotational player. It would be smart imo to invest in the portal.

I know Joe Evans is great. But he is just to small to go every play. He’s the definition of a specialist in our scheme. Joe is the man.
