Kelvin Sampson is coaching in the Big Dance; unbelievable

I used to work with a man who went to the same school as KS, but he was a class or two under KS. KS was more recognized as a baseball player, although he was good at basketball from what I was told back then. Anyways, good for him and good luck!

The same way Pearl got the Auburn job - they have a proven winning records. How they got those wins is less important to some ADs then others. Pearl is under investigation again, don't be surprised if Sampson eventually joins him.
Plus it's Houston and Auburn. Not like they are well respected athletic departments in terms of following rules

Kyle Meyer ended his career playing for Houston and Sampson last year I believe.

What Sampson "did" is totally legal now, and was legal shortly after he got in trouble. He basically called after hours and texted too much. His bigger "sin" was lying to the NCAA. I was never happy with him as the IU coach, but his offenses are peanuts compared to what's being investigated now.

If you noticed during the game yesterday the player on the bench dressed in warmups due to an injury was Wes Van Beck. Unfortunate he couldn't play(he is like their 4th leading scorer). His parents are Iowa graduates(his mother is from IC). I talked to his father at some high school playoff games recently.

Ol' Dan Dakich took a quick a shot at KS during some selection show. Said disdainfully, 'Wow so he's getting another chance with Houston.'

He'll go off the script, call things or people out. Agree or disagree, that's what I like about.

Called after hours?

Called after hours?
Guess I should have said "called beyond the regulated calling window and exceeded call limits." Dakich hates him, not because of the calling/text stuff, but because Sampson brought in some low-character clowns and showed no interest in whether they flunked class, smoked weed, etc., as long as they could hoop.

Does it pay to cheat? I know it doesn't, but think about it. He cheats, takes a few years off and then gets another gig. Miller cheats, but wins, takes a year off and then gets another gig. The guy from LSU cheats his ass, gets fired and in another year he will be back at it. You wait and see

Apparently it does. Go back in time and look at all of the cheaters who have won big, and nobody cares about the cheating aspect of it. As you said, a coach will be fired for cheating, and the next school will be there to scoop them up. Vacated wins? Nobody cares that Michigan's Fab 5 wins were vacated. Jerry Tarkanian - was in hot water by the time he left UNLV, but is in the basketball hall of fame.

If memory serves me, I believe Sampson exceeded his allotment of phone calls/text messages to recruits. Yes a violation of the rules but hardly egregious cheating by the likes of Kansas, Arizona, LSU, etc.
