Kentucky can throw a punch, but it can't take one

Aaron White gets a T for hangin' on the rim. Gabe gets tossed for blocking a shot. Woody gets Flagrant fouls for wearing IOWA on his jersey. But Kentucky throws a punch, clobbers the National Player of the Year in the jaw, and hell, boys, it's BAU, right NCAA gurus? What the hell IS that?

The officiating in the NCAA this year was as bad as I can ever remember. And damn, GET KENTUCKY'S HANDS OFF THE BALL HANDLER! The greatest team in the world was mugging Wisconsin all over the floor and no calls! Somebody's gotta invent a brand of basketball that doesn't include officials. They are ruining the sport. Remember when the point of emphasis was "freedom of movement" and the slightest touch of the ball handler was an immediate foul? I do. The guys with the whistles clearly do not.

And how, please explain, HOW can three guys watch the video of Kaminsky getting mugged and shrug their shoulders and say "Play on"? How is that possible? That was the national semifinals, and those guys are the best refs available? Then it's clear the game is in serious trouble. That black ref was especially miserable. He was on the take or just had no clue whatsoever. Your choice.

Well, Kentucky may have gotten away with throwing a punch and a general mugging, but it couldn't get away with another win. Thank heaven for that. The Badgers played through it and, again, just refused to lose. That's one tough bunch. There's no quit in them, and that's their greatest asset. Say what you will about him, but Bo Ryan is one helluva coach, and he deserves the national title he's gonna get on Monday night.

John Higgins is not only still an NCAA official, but one that gets hired to officiate the Final Four?

I would hold the phone just a tad on that one my good man. I'm no fan of either team, and I really like this Wisconsin team and what they bring to the table, but Duke has been on a roll in this tournament, far better than I thought they were. Not that Wisconsin has been chopped liver, they've been real good as well, but Duke has been "scary" good (as in crap, they're really good, much better than in the regular season and I don't want them to win another National Title).

I DO hope they beat Duke on Monday night for sure. Sounds like the opening line is a pick-em, which I think is dead on. Though Duke beat Wisconsin by 10 in Madison early in the year (shooting fricking 65% from the floor!), I think Duke is a far better team now than they were then. That said, they're still Duke, so they're really good and them beating anyone at anytime isn't news. Coach K is now 9-1 against Izzo. That stat just blows me away.

There were some of the "experts" on TV last night already counting Wisconsin out, because they won the game they wanted to win against Unbeaten Kentucky and how would they possibly get up to play and beat Duke. Well, 2 reasons. They want to win a National Title obviously, AND they want to beat a Duke team that handed them their ass on their home court a few months ago. I think Wisconsin has plenty of motivation. Should be a damn good game. I hope Wisconsin brings it home.

It should be a great game. Why are the officials allowing Ky and Duke defenders to grab and old every possession? It looks like MIchigan States defense during the conference season.

I don't know how the Kentucky player got away with throwing the punch but I don't think it was Kaminsky that he hit.

Wasn't it Gasser?

Jeez sloe, you reply with 3 paragraphs concerning the last sentence of his rant? Atleast tell him it's insane that Kentucky didn't get called for a flagrant! :)

It was and that was an easy flagrant 1 of not flagrant 2 call.

My son who played for a fairly elite 4th grade team that was 40-12 this year got hit worse than that 100 times this year.
Come on, that was nothing but good acting. Or the future players are going to be a hell of a lot tougher

Woody got flagrant fouls for having IOWA on his jersey?

Why NCAA?
Thanks for Posting this. I don't know what happened. Something did. Higgins made darn sure Iowa lost this game, no doubt in my mind. The Fix was in.

Really should be no surprise that after the Kentucky vs. Wisconsin game there is some complaining, if not minor controversy, over some of the calls.

And I'm asking myself how a guy who I can find by name on the internet, on several team fan sites, being singled out and condemned as a horrible ref is even considered as an NCAA Final Four worthy official!?!?

I look at that decision. And I read comments like this one from Jim Delaney, "The decentralization probably adds to the diversity and the inconsistency. But it also adds to the interest. … Leagues play different (styles). There's a beauty to that, too." (meaning by decentralization that the NCAA doesn't have a pool of refs for all of Division One.)

Now how can I apply Hanlon's razor? "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

I mean, who is THAT stupid to hire John Higgins to officiate the Final Four!?!? Do you WANT controversy?!?!? And isn't that pretty much what Jim Delaney just admitted about Big Ten officiating!?!?
Inconsistency adds interest!?!?

I know, I'm probably going to get called a conspiracy theorist and paranoid for daring to question that which doesn't make sense. But better that, I think, than a gullible fool that believes anything they are told.

I really didn't think it was a real punch until I looked at on replay and it sure was an on purpose PUNCH.
