Kevin Dresser Introduction Press Conference

I haven't been paying attention, is he finishing the season at VaTech?

I like how Dresser said that starting out at VT was tougher than starting out at ISU, because the previous administration stole all the wrestlers, wink wink. It will be interesting to see if any VT guys follow him. Overall, I though it was a good press conference and thanks for posting!

Dresser is going to be free to recruit.
Pretty good deal for ISU if he can go around and recruit rather than say, coach a team. Found a Hookie blog with some interesting observations:

Based on last year’s NWCA Oranges rant, Dresser has already disqualified himself as an Iowa head coach, doing so in epic fashion defending VT and his wrestlers to the bitter end.
...
Dresser is one of the last remaining members of the Iowa 5 saga, having a front row seat to the shady dealings as Matt Epperly and Cody Gardner’s head coach.
...
Tom Brands and his attempt to gut our program nearly succeeded if Dresser hadn’t been down the road. Jim Weaver seriously considered scrapping the program, and were it not for Dresser, wrestling would likely be done at VT, and the ACC Wrestling Conference would also likely not exist.
...
Folks like to focus on those five Iowa wrestlers in that messy breakup: Metcalf, Borschel, Slaton, Leet, and LeClere, and their lack of release (which now that we’re moving on was wrong of our then administration to do, but I’m sure they felt they were handcuffed). What gets lost in the churn is the other transfers – Eric Decker left for ODU & Bonilla-Bowman to Hofstra.
...
So here’s to you Kevin Dresser. This is really bittersweet, and we can understand the motivation, but we’re gonna miss you. You’ve given more to Virginia Tech than you’ve taken, and you’ll permanently be a Hokie Legend. Best of Luck in Ames. We’ll be cheering from Blacksburg for the rest of your outstanding career.

Bonilla-bowman was fun to watch, I knew he was at VT first but didn't know he was apart of that whole ordeal to.

Just a side note to Dresser saying one of his long term goals is to beat Iowa. I would say that is one of very coaches long and or short term goals. Not many succeed though. I would be curious to know how many teams have beaten Iowa in a dual or at the NCAA tourney in the past 25 years. I would not be surprised if it is less than 10.

Since you asked my rough count is:
14 different teams have beaten Iowa in a dual in the past 25 years:
PSU, OSU, tOSU, NC ST, Mizzou, Minn, Wis, Illinois, MSU, Michigan, Nebby, NW, ISU and Oklahoma
15 different teams have placed higher than Iowa at a NCAA tourney in the past 25 years:
PSU, OSU, tOSU, VaTech, Minn, ISU, Oklahoma, Lehigh, ASU, Michigan, Cornell, Illinois, Mizzou, NW, and Hofstra

Scrapping the program would have been for the sole purpose of Weaver to get back at Brands. Coaches leave. Deal with it. That is the ADs job. For an AD to even threaten that shows what kind of a douche bag he was.

I forgot that you guys had a couple "down" years before Jimmy Z was let go. So by my figuring 20 teams have either beaten you in a dual and/or placed ahead of you guys in the last 25 years. For example, Hofstra placed ahead of you at the NCAAs one year that counts as one team. Minny beat you in a dual and placed ahead of you one year. That is stilll online team. Certainly that number is less than 10 since Brands took over. Maybe you would have to exclude his first year there. Either way, that is pretty impressive.
My point is, a lot of coaches are going to retire without ever attaining one of their long term goals. Dresser may be one of them.
