These WR all have a lot of similarities.........they've been unsung,
yet terrifically productive at Iowa.

Kevin Kasper ------------ pure speed and great route runner.

Ed Hinkel-------------- great hands, great route runner

Matt Vandeberg ------- same as Ed Hinkel and super tough kid.

Is Jay Scheel or Ryan Boyle the next to follow in this mold ?

GO HAWKS :)

I think Kevin Kasper would have been more highly regarded if he hadn't played on bad Iowa teams. It's nice to see his name mentioned once in a while. Aaron Kampman is another former Hawkeye who was great that seldom gets the recognition he deserves.

I didn't see the spring game, but am assuming Ryan Boyle will be more of a slot receiver? Also, I was under the impression Jay Scheel was more of a prototypical deep threat wide receiver. I ask because all the names you mentioned were more slot receivers.

Scheel will contribute this year, I doubt Boyle will...would be cool to see him take a jet sweep tho

I don't know what to think about Boyle. But all things considered he was impressive this spring. I think he could be the guy who does the dirty work like Hillyer.

I wouldn't put Vandeberg anywhere near Hinkel's level. Eddie was the best.

Matt Vandegerg was AWESOME last year, for the Hawkeyes, leading the team in
receptions. And he scored a touchdown in the Rose Bowl. He's been a great Hawkeye.

He's right up there will Ed Hinkel, in my humble opinion. Both great HAWKEYES :)

Vandeberg has been reliable. Every quality team needs a guy like him.

I think Vandy, like Hinkel will go down as one of the most underrated skill players ever to play for Iowa. On related WR note I’ll likely bring up again elsewhere. I was reading Morehouse at The Gazette and he is a stats guy and gets or compiles some enat stuff. Vandenberg tipped pass when he was on the field 61% of the time. Smith tipped pass 66%. Riley M only 16%, he run blocked on 190 of 225 snaps.

Here is why that is important, we have many out loud critics who want players to play because “they” think they can catch and run down the field. The same aforementioned also call us predictable. Well the quickest way to be predictable is to have players who get subbed out for blockers and come back in for pass catching. Soooo many nuances that most fans don’t grasp.

Make sure we compare all white wide receivers to only other white wide receivers. How was DJK any different as a player than Kasper??
