He was left with Sam Darnold as the starting QB after he lost Kirk Cousins to free agency and JJ McCarthy to a season ending knee injury.

The Chiefs have the best record in the AFC at 13-1.

In the NFC, the top 3 teams are:
12-2: Eagles
12-2: Lions
12-2: Vikings

Sam Darnold is just the 3rd QB in NFL history to reach 3,500 passing yards, 29 TD passes and 100.0+ passer rating in his first 14 games with a team.

Their projected wins over under was 6.5

He is pretty damn good coach.

As a Vikings fan I doubt I will ever see a Super Bowl win but the HC isn’t a problem.

GM needs to amass talent while managing cap.

Also, if the future QB JJ McCarthy stinks they got a mess on their hands.

NFL….Not For Long. Windows open and Close so fast in NFL.

Vikings can’t beat Rams it seems. That would be a first round matchup I fear.

KOC is a prime example why Offensive Coordinators make good head coaches.

The banana peel is out there. Everybody knows it, it's inevitable, and the Vikings will step on it.
Absolutely correct. I winced hard the other night when they beat the Bears and a graphic popped up on screen that said "Most wins through 14 games since 1998."

The Vikings have been to 10 FINAL FOURS/ NFC Championship games in their history. They lost 6 of those 10 games. The 4 that they won? They then went on to lose all 4 Super Bowl appearances.

Yup. I would never hire defensive guy as head coach. He would still need a good OC and teams can hire them away easy.

If Lions lose Ben Johnson I doubt they are as good

If Vikings lose Flores they could likely grab Robert Saleh and be fine.

When the NFL Network came out with their America's Game series about the Super Bowl winners, they also did a Missing Rings series that focused on the five greatest teams not to win a title. The Vikings were two of them.

I'd run through the list of late-season and playoff futility, but it takes too long. This tells the story best: Since 1966, the Vikings are fourth all-time in NFL winning percentage. They are the only team in the top 16 without a Super Bowl win.

There are some D coordinators that have become good head coaches. Look at Dan Quinn for an example. Taking that Washington train wreck to a playoff contender. . He took Atlanta to a Super Bowl also.

Vikings were also picked to finish 3rd or 4th in the division by many pundits, the same of which chastised them for letting Cousins go and picking up Sam Darnold as a bridge guy in the off-season, even though it was very clear that the Vikings were planning for 2025 with their upcoming cap space freedom.

As for their playoff opponent, I think unless some other upsets happen, the Vikings will be looking at either the 1 or the 5 seed, which should clear them of a team like the Rams, unless they poop their pants over the next 3 weeks.

I think it'll be a race between Tampa Bay and Atlanta for the 4 seed, and the Rams could easily finish 11-6 and lock up the 3 seed.

The Eagles at this point are either gonna be the 2 or the 1 seed.

That just leaves the wounded Lions and the plucky try hard Fudge Packers.

Also, Washington is a win away from essentially securing the 7 seed, and they'd be a rough 1st Rd opponent for whoever ends up the 2, including Philly because they play this weekend, meaning they'll be fresh in the minds if the Eagles get the 2 seed and the Commanders the 7.

That's a long way of saying that I think the Vikings' first opponent could vary unfortunately between the winner of TB-Atl and they'd have to settle for going on the road despite the better record, and the head to head win in the case of Atlanta.......and the lowest remaining seed of 4,5,6,7 if the Vikings manage to capture the 1 seed, which still keeps Atl/TB in play, but means Minnesota gets home field throughout, and more than likely doesn't include a divisional matchup with Philly or LA.

(It'd just include one against potentially GB, Detroit, or Wash as well........)

Make sense? :D

Hired in the same cycle as the bears hired eberflus. They didn't even interview OConnell. Effing idiots.
I think the vikes have a ceiling of nfc championship game bc of Darnold but the job KOC has done this year has been masterful. Hell they're winning the injury bug lottery for the most part now too.
The roster was quietly better than people realized. Jones, Addison, Jefferson, Hockensen as your skill players is legit. And you knew Flores was going to have a strong defense. Coaching matters in the NFL.

The first Super Bowl they were in is really the only one they should have won. The others they were significant underdogs. They lost to Oakland, Miami and Pittsburgh during their glory years.

Free agent pick ups were huge also. Greenard, Van Ginkel and Cashman have made a big difference on the defense.
