I'm assuming they will do better in the coming days/weeks.

Today's Cedar Rapids Gazette celebrated one of its own becoming an olympian by running the "story" in a small corner of the "News Notes" section on page 3 of the sports section. Made me sad.

Congrats, Spencer...you are main story page front page for a lot of us;) (I'm assuming the Gazette will give him more space leading up to Paris...)

Should be front page. But who reads newspapers these days.

And the Register is jealous of the Gazette.

Death of the newspaper is literally one of America’s great tragedies.

I’m not an old man, but I am old enough to remember looking forward to the Pig Peach on Sundays during football season as a kid.😔
I used to deliver those on Sunday mornings at five a m. Those newspapers weighed about five pounds a piece.

I am not sure that I would go that far. Our local paper only has local news now and I actually enjoy looking through it. None of the API propaganda, just a lot of feel good stories about what is happening in our town, and of course any controversies that are local to us.

No API propaganda, just feel good stories? Sorry, but that's not really news, even if it is as entertaining as puppies on YouTube. It's really hard to find non-politicized news these days.

Good luck to your wife! I hope she's well on her way to a full recovery.
Damn! This is unfortunate. I wish your wife a speedy and successful recovery. Hopefully you can take her to Paris someday.

I did as well. My paper route lasted for 3 years. In the first year I delivered morning and afternoons. Those suckers were heavy. Did you have the bag over the shoulder to carry them? Later on, I got smart and put double baskets on the back of my Dad’s old bike. One real windy day they all blew out and I lost all the papers in the wind, from then on, folded side down.
Having a paper route sure helped me stay in shape.

The only source of news that takes its time - fact checked, edited, and reviewed before making it to print. Newspapers have always been the single best source for factual information, and also for relevant information - because the finite space means there is no room for trash stories and "click bait."

When my son was wrestling in NJ, the Bergen Record has a circulation of about 150k and covered every wrestling meet with box scores and stories. It was exciting to see his team and even his name mentioned in articles on the sports page. I just read that since 2016 the circulation has gone down something 80% to a miserable 25k.

We have lost something important, both culturally, and in the knowledge of our citizens. Democracy requires an informed electorate, and we no longer qualify. It's sad and frightening from multiple angles.

I had a bag for Mon-Sat and a wagon for non-snow days un the winter. Fried egg sandwiches from mom when I git home. About twuce a winter my dad would take me in his jeep. Not too often tho, he didnt want to spoil me. My route was 37th and University to 42 nd street, a lot of apartments.

I learned to love the big peach and the afternoon papers as well. I loved many of the writers and grew to really enjoy the opinion page. Back then you could say you know what I learned in the paper this morning. You can't do that to day, especially with rags like the USA Today.
