Kiper's new mock draft

If Aiden Hutchinson goes 1 overall he will go down as one of the biggest draft busts in history.
I think it’s more likely he goes #2 to the hometown team, Detroit. Thibodeaux has the higher ceiling but Aiden probably has the higher floor I think. The only reason some might have him as a #1 is that it’s not a great draft for high-end skill position players, especially quarterbacks. There’s maybe one or two possible franchise guys this year…maybe. You know there’s going to be a dumb team or three that takes a qb in the top ten, even tho I don’t think there is one this year, maybe Pickett.

Its why I think Tyler HAD to go this year, because I don’t think his stock will be any higher than it is now. Personally think he goes top 10.

This draft class is well below average in my opinion. Any GM who takes a QB in round 1 should be fired the next day (Unless it's Matt Corral late, late, in the first round). If I was drafting in the top 3 I'd be looking to move to the back half of the top 10 and pick up a few additional picks in the process.

Steelers, Ravens, Eagles, Browns...I'd like to see him stay in Blk\Gold and then have A Rodgers taking snaps!

It’s one reason I didn’t object to the Bears taking Fields last year. You could see the lack of star power at the position for the ‘22 draft. Drafting one in the teens is acceptable imo, but there’s not a top 10 pick for sure. Even though we all know someone will be dumb enough to do it.

While I’d give a great deal to get Rodgers out of the division, Pittsburgh deserves better than that.

He looked pretty average against an elite offensive line like Georgia.
While I don’t think Aiden is an all-time great, it’s also not fair to judge him solely on that one game. It was a classic case of Michigan playing their WORST game of the year at the same time that Georgia played maybe their best. They wanted Bama badly.

Who's better than Rodgers (besides Brady)?

He's not toxic like AB, but he can be a dick...agreed.
Can't think of much more toxic than what that drama queen and attention whore put the franchise through last summer. He just plays the most important position in football and is one of the best ever to do it so they appeased the egomaniac to keep him. If a receiver did that he'd be treated like AB.

Cuz he owns you

the hissy fit he threw because the packers drafted Jordan Love, whether or not you agree with the pick, and the vaccinated/immunized stuff to name two examples. I fully admit he’s a great quarterback but just like Favre before him, he thinks his ability to play quarterback excuses all of his off field behavior.

Ok, you're not completely wrong. :)

You mean like Iowa against Michigan? Honestly I didn't think he really stood out against us considering how bad our play at OT was all season.

Rewatch the game. He didn’t necessarily get a ton of sacks or tackles, but he absolutely controlled his side of the line, and kept the linebackers free to make tackles. Against OSU, he lived in the backfield.

He strikes me as a jack of all trades DE. Very good pass rusher, but also good against the run. In a normal year, prob not a top 5 pick, but especially when there aren’t a ton of elite guys I get why he’s at the top of most draft boards. Same reason Tyler stands a good chance at being a top 10 pick, when normally centers don’t go that high.

If the Eagles think the Ravens will take Lindy they will trade up two spots and take him. They need a center as much as anyone and have the draft capital to pull it off without giving up too much.

The vax stuff shouldn't impact it at all, that's a very big issue for a lot of people. Vax'd or not you still get it, transmit it, get hospitalized, die...look at the data, more fully vax'd Iowans are taking up hospital beds now then unvax'd...

Now The NCAA is even allowing previously infected players to not be vax'd now...NEVER should have been forced.

I don’t care that he didn’t get the vaccine. I care that he lied about it, and then tried to paint himself as the victim when he got caught. admittedly, I still think he would have been dumb not to get the vaccine, but at least be honest about it. He deliberately misled people to believe he’d been vaccinated, and ignored as a result all of the Covid protocols that his Union agreed to with the league.

also, no one was ever required to take the vaccine. But if a player chose to not vaccinate, then they needed to still take Covid tests and such. In fairness, those worked for the most part, until Omicron came along and spread much more rapidly, vaccinated or not.

I'm not educated enough to know how much this means, but Linderbaum and Hutchison are both graded significantly higher (94-95) by Pro Football Focus (PFF) than the remainder of the potential lottery picks. I imagine that this score is determined by how they performed against their competition, is not a completely valid measuring system, and is unlikely to be a perfect measure of how the player translates to the professional game, but it was still surprising to me.

Mel Kiper, I used to like Mel Kiper, until I listened to him. I did watch a couple NFL drafts where it seemed like he was constantly wrong, and every athlete video they showed Mel was constantly saying "You can see the polish".
I think I get the idea of that statement, but...
If you can see the polish, ironically, that means it's a poorly done job or incomplete job. Was he indicating that those athletes were still developing or that they were finished products? Confusing statement on its face.

The thing that drives me a bit batty about Kiper is that you hear his inhale while he rambles and rambles - every time.

I’ve been a Packer fan my whole life, and generally supportive of Love, but that pick is kind of a head scratcher.

Your making my point for me. Yes, he stood out against OSU. He was all over the place. But he did little in our game to compared to all the build up he was getting. Frankly our DE's do a pretty good job for the most part containing things and letting Benson and Campbell clean everything up. Campbell had 150 tackles I think leading the BIG, and Benson had over 100 also in the top ten. Neither of Michigans LB's were anywhere near that.....

No, it's ALL about his vax status. Best part is he's unvaxxed and no one is saying squat.
If the Vid was that bad they wouldn't let him play.

Off field behavior? I must have missed his drunken driving escapades and then the run of the mill beat down of a few women. Or maybe his abuse of drugs and run-in's with the police after being arrested for driving 100 mph down the side streets of Green Bay?

What he did was be upset with the team's management for drafting a QB rather than an offensive weapon to help the team win now. He literally found out on draft night. He held out and he's hardly the first athlete to do that.

Or maybe you're upset with his stance regarding the vaccine. He informed the NFL what his plan was. That was he and his doctor discussed it and came to a conclusion that as a healthy world class athlete, the vaccine was more of an unknown and a threat than was a virus with a 99% plus survival rate. He misled the media - oh the humanity. He then was crucified over the treatment he wanted to use. Amazingly, he was back on the field in a matter of days. Much to the dismay of all the naysayers.

Or maybe it's because he is simply the best QB in the North Division and you're sick of the Packers owning it? Yes, it appears he may have a little douche in him. And to restate what Chris Long said, if you think he's anyway near the biggest jerk in the NFL, you don't know the NFL very well.

Perhaps. But if he ends up being the next JJ Watt, who he compares to in many ways, then it won't be a bust, will it?

Also, it's only really a bust if you pick him over players who clearly had more upside and then go on to have much better careers. This draft class is pretty lackluster, so who else warrants going No. 1? Tyler Linderbaum may be the only sure thing in this class TBH.

In my opinion, 2022 could be remembered as the "trade down draft" because a lot of teams would rather have more Day 2 picks over anything in the first round.

Taking a quarterback was semi-defensible. Rodgers was coming off two consecutive average years, where his TD/INT ration was 1:1. and Green Bay was attempting to do the same thing with him Rodgers by drafting his successor as they did when they drafted Rodgers when Favre was still there. It looks bad now because he’s played at an All-Pro level ever since. But hindsight is 20/20. Drafting Love was still a head-scratcher, but I understood why they made the pick.

Guess I feel he was more impactful than you do in our game. We should both know that DL stats can vary so much based on scheme. Some of the DL guys we’ve had who have had the best NFL careers didn’t put up huge stat numbers. And I said earlier, in a better draft I don’t think he’s a top 5 pick. But it’s not, so he is. Still think he can be a good pro however.

At least for me, it was entirely that he lied about it and then tried to play victim about it. i think he’d have been wrong, but I’d have at least respected that he didn’t want to get vaccinated. anyone who gets caught in a lie and then tries to tell us they didn’t, loses respect from me.

i get him being upset about that, though considering he got drafted under very similar circumstances he’s got less to complain about. But then the next year DURING the draft he let it be know he wanted out…not sure I know of many others who have done that. Players hold out because they have contract disputes, not because you drafted a potential successor. And yeah, it drives me nuts that any player does it, though I can understand the rationale. had he simply said no, I’m not taking the vaccine…fine, I think he’s wrong, but stand by your belief. Don’t lie about it and then cry when you get called out for it. There’s been other stuff over the years that has just accumulated for me overall.

i hate as a bears fan that he’s dominated the division for years, but I respect him as a player…as much as everyone else keeps screwing up, he is still making the big plays. Next to Brady, there’s no one that makes me more nervous with two minutes to go and he needs a touchdown.

I never said he won't be a good pro. I was just surprised he didn't make more plays in our game given the hype, AND how bad our OT's played most of the year. A couple of years ago AJE absolutely wrecked several games for the opposing OL ad he went in the second round...

The Packers drafted Rodgers because Favre was continually threatening to retire, so the situation is not really the same. Rodgers never threatened to retire and never held the team hostage by such actions. He also never complained about sitting on the bench for 3 years, but Green Bay knew that had to do something and thankfully they chose to cut ties with Favre and give the reigns to Rodgers. Pretty sure he'll be back, by the way :)
