Shared this on TOS, but I thought I’d let you bums take a peak at it as well:

After each bowl game, I update a spreadsheet I've kept since 2008 on Iowa Football. Here are the numbers for Kirk Ferentz after 25 seasons.

Overall Record: 196-119
Overall Winning Percentage .622
Big Ten Record: 122-87
Conference Winning Percentage .584
Yearly Average: 8-5
Average Big Ten Record: 5 - 3
Against ranked teams: 25-61*
Bowl Record: 10-10

*Teams that FINISHED the season ranked in the AP, Coaches, BCS, or CFP. Not that were ranked at the time of play, ie the 2021 Indiana Hoosiers who were #17 when we played them but finished the season 2-10. Also, I include teams that were ranked in one poll but not in others, ie the 2013 Nebraska Cornhuskers who finished the season ranked 25 in the Coaches Poll.

Kirk Ferentz has not beaten a team that finished the season ranked in any poll since November 16th, 2019, when he beat #10 Minnesota in Kinnick.

As an aside, I don't know if we'll ever see a schedule like that 1999 slate featuring 6 teams that finished the season ranked (#2 Nebraska, #7 Michigan State, #11 Penn State, #25 Illinois, #4 Wisconsin, #17 Minnesota) with 3 in the top 7. In 2003, we also faced 6 ranked teams, finishing 4-2 against them: (#10 Miami OH, #18 Purdue, #4 Ohio State, #6 Michigan, #20 Minnesota, #24 Florida - AP poll results)

A few standouts:

- Record vs Northwestern is probably the worst among the teams listed
- Respectable vs Michigan and PSU
- Legacy/program a bit different with a few more wins against Wisconsin
- It has been awhile since we've played an OT game!
- Not sure what to make of the record vs ending top 25, would be curious to see some others

I was going to ask on the other site, "who was the last great team we beat".

I think we have crested the curve of being competitive with great teams.

Yeah, 2016 Michigan, 2017 OSU? It feels like it's been awhile since we've pulled out one of our once classic drag the superior team down into the mud and hang around type wins.

I was going to ask on the other site, "who was the last great team we beat".

I'd say that 2019 Minnesota team wasn't bad. Finished ranked 10th in both polls and went 11-2 that season. Top 10 is pretty great in my book. They beat Penn State who finished #9 and Auburn who finished 14th. Not to mention 11-2 is basically iowa's high water mark.

Counterpoint: how many team that were ranked 15-25 at the end of the season wouldn't have been if they had lost to Iowa, and how many teams ended up as RV because of a loss to Iowa?
