I was bored and was doing a little research on this year’s NBA draft class. As of now, it’s looking like anywhere from 16 to 22 for Kris, which is still a damn good contract. Hopefully he blows up these next few weeks(30+ a game) and improves his draft stock!

He is only shooting 34% from 3 for the year and 74% at the free throw line along with around 49%total fg%. He needs more strength to absorb contact and finish around the basket better. Nba is full of freakish athletes, hope Kris can improve and I'm sure some team will take him in the first with hopes of more development.

The 5 mocks I looked at all have him going in the first. He definitely has some things to work on, but I’m pretty sure he’ll just keep getting better. IMHO he needs to be more aggressive, that’s why I’m hoping he takes over every game he has left in a Hawkeye uniform.

Quite the accomplishment for the Murrays and Fran to have two consecutive 1st round picks. Add in Garza and Weiskamp and that’s 4 players drafted in the past 3 years. NBA development can no longer be used as a recruiting tool against Fran. And with Keegan’s success as a rookie, I’ve got to think recruits will take notice. One more piece of the puzzle.

Kris worked out last year post season with Keegan for the scouts/teams. There is a reason he came back this year instead of going pro and that was to work on certain aspects of his game. He'll be just fine.

It certainly appears he will go in the first round, which is critical from a contract perspective. Maybe he'll get drafted by someone in the midwest that we can see play every once in a while!

I hope he finishes the season strong - both for him and the Hawks!

He won't be a top half of the first round pick this year. Based on last year's contracts, that's $20-$30 million less for overall contract. If he stays another year, he'd be giving up $2 million in a first year contract for the chance of gaining $20-$30 million of value.

Or it's going to be $2 million either way and then that gets into what you're looking for. Stay another year because you don't want to sit on a NBA bench all year or go to the NBA to start making that $2 million.

It's a reasonable argument, but I don't think that's what is going to happen, It sounds like Kris was close to going to the NBA last year.

It also noteworthy (and amazing) that he is considered "old" for the NBA draft this year!

Agree, but it would be an interesting choice for him if we got him $2 million in NIL. However, I think most young men would rather play in the NBA rather than in college with the money being equal.

Yeah, most of the kids projected ahead of him are still teens!

I'm not sure this is the best decision as he still has aspects of his game that need improving.

But....I'm no expert and I trust his advisors are doing what's best for him. I thank him for all he has done for the Hawks and wish him well in the future!

What hell with all of these guys leaving to play in the NBA - Kris had two years of eligibility left. I will never understand it. Golly gee heck, they are getting paid now, so what is the big rush. Fran has to tell them if they are not committed to the program don't come.

It was absolutely the right decision for Kris. Every mock draft still has him in the first round, and I would expect his stock to tick upwards as he goes through the draft evaluation process. While he was probably making solid NIL money at Iowa, he will surely make much, much more in the NBA.

I wish him nothing but the best, and I look forward to cheering for him and his new team.

People who think a guy whos going to be a 1st round pick should come back because he's "not ready" are fvcking idiots.

Good luck to Kris! Do you think he has any chance of breaking his brother’s NBA record for most 3’s made by a rookie?

Basketball at all levels need a lot more players with the Murrays' dispositions. No chest pounding, no screaming, no look at me after every basket. They are a true anomaly in the sport and I wish them both nothing but the best.
I agree 1000%. A smile every now and then would be okay though 😁
