At her press conference today, she wouldn't answer the "Will you be back next year?" question, but when pressed about what she'll do after graduation, she replied, "I don't know. I haven't thought that far in advance." Sounds like someone who knows she'll be back playing b-ball.

In watching the video, I didn't get any idea/thought she was coming back. Maybe she's waiting until the end of the season to focus on a decision. Pretty clear she has not thought about her future after Iowa BB.

Kylie did say she might want to start her own thing. Maybe she needs capital to start that thing. This is where the new NIL/Rev Share could come into play for her decision.

Using the IA/Swarm as an example. There are 3 arms they can extract funds from:
1) Base/Charity Arm - might be $5k-15k/mo - different players could have different bucket amounts of more or less than another player based on a projection of All-American, 1st Team B1G, a starter, a reserve, etc etc.
2) Corp Inc Arm - unlimited to what you can negotiate with an unlimited # of corps like CC did.
3) Athletics/Rev Sharing Arm - $100k/yr + performance bonuses (ie over 750 points gets you another $25k, etc, etc).

#3 is what is unknown to the players right now. I suspect there are some or many waiting for this to take root 1st.
#1 and #2 can be found out now if they wanted and these arms can not have performance bonuses tied to them.

Now Iowa might designate $100k-$200k/yr to each player in women's basketball + performance bonuses. These numbers are unknown right now until the rulings come out in the next several months.

With Kylie, they might even say we'll pay you an additional performance bonus of an extra $250 for every charge you take. Just throwing out a player specific example here.

Again, depending on your motives and opportunities, this new Rev Sharing could put a hold on some players making decisions now. If they're smart, they'll wait for the ruling to come out 1st before they make a decision on what Iowa will pay out with its Rev Share plan.

If the Rev Share is only $40k to Kylie, then she may pass on that and move on.

Would be surprised if we got an answer before April 7th or whenever this decision is made and then Iowa makes their decision based off this ruling.

Main date for the Rev Share ruling is...
"After all, a final approval hearing of the House settlement is not scheduled until April 7."

Bring this up because Jan said in a recent interview that no recruits have asked about academics in the last 6 months and question was centered around the context of NIL. This should be telling you what's driving player decisions now. I'm sure it's not everyone. However, according to Jan it's pretty clear NIL is driving most of the player decisions now.

I think the way it finishes for her and the team might go into any decision. She may come out if it with some recognition, or come out of it feeling like she has more to do as an athlete.
Will she feel wanted or necessary to next season? There is also that rev-share to consider.
Add in any personal life considerations and it becomes pretty difficult.

Holy shit, dude you have a gift… People think I have a lot to say and head off on tangential diatribes routinely. And I am not in any way shape or form screwing with you. I am in awe!

Her younger sister plays for St. Thomas Minnesota. You sometimes see the older sister transfer down to play with family for a swan song season. Not predicting anything, just brainstorming.

Anything is possible, I guess. I just don't see that in the video.
IMO she's just in the here and now and will think about options after the season.

St. Thomas Minnesota? Is that Division II, III, or NAIA? What's the NIL there? $50 bucks to Casey's? Surely if Kylie comes back for another year, it's because the money is too good to pass up?

St. Thomas is in DI. The basketball teams play in the Summit League. The school was expelled from the DIII MIAC conference in 2019 because its sports was too good and other teams in the conference threatened to leave. So St. Thomas jumped to DI.

I cannot imagine a scenario where Kylie plays somewhere else next year. I think it’s one more season with Iowa, or off to support her boyfriend’s professional basketball dream. It wouldn’t be so bad spending a few years in some NBA or European city right out of college.

If she doesn't get recognized with other seniors tomorrow, she's coming back.

If she is recognized with other seniors tomorrow, then we still won't know.

(I came up with that one all by my myself) :)
