kylie feurbach is back

It doesn't say anything. We currently have FOUR open spots on the roster, and Jans not going to bring four new players in from the portal. Both Guyton and Deal are combo guards, and one or both can play the point. Kylie is a 2/3 basically.
I think this takes some of the pressure off to recruit a 2/3 out of the portal. We have a very good player returning in that position. This also gives TS time to develop. I can't see much if any negative to this news

Only 2 slots available. Does anyone expect that there is likely to be a 3rd transfer offer for Iowa better than Kylie? I dont think so, remember anyone coming in would still have to learn the system, and Kylie seemed to take a step up this year. I think Iowa targets a seasoned PG, and maybe a 4.

Probably so. In truth Deal could play anywhere on the perimeter, but I think she'll end up at the point, because she's a hell of a passer, from what I've seen. I think that would help Guyton as well to be off the ball most of the time. Probably the biggest "need" now for Jan is who of Hannah and Mallegni steps up and takes that 4 spot. Hopefully one or both and then you have a really solid lineup. I do wonder about McCabe's role. I'd think back to a reserve role unless Guyton really struggles. I think on the perimeter its Guyton, Kylie, and Deal. Just don't see anyway Deal comes in and doesn't start....

I don't see them going after a 4, but who knows. Jan speaks very highly of Mallegni, and expects her to really come on, and you'd think she's going to really push Hannah to step into that role, so both Heiden and Hays see quality minutes. That and she'll want to help ready Hannah for the draft, and she'll need those 4 skills to make a team.

In this scenario, if a seasoned pg is brought in and Deal is getting major minutes...between Stremlow/McCabe/Guyton, somebody might leave.

I don't see Stremlow leaving. She'll have a role much like Syd did early on. My concern would be Guyton. I'm sure Jan would like to get KJ in the gym and make a decision if she'll have a role on the team or not.

If that happens, it happens. If Iowa is going to be a top ten program, transfers out will be an unfortunate consequence. Hopefully, the culture they have built will keep transfers to a minimum.

There are no point guards in the portal good enough to justify the disruption it would cause. There are no Lucys out there. PG in the portal is academic. Guyton and Deal will get the job done.

Glad Kylie's returning. Big plus for the team

Feuerbach returning makes Deal as the starting/primary PG much more likely. Iowa's rotation next year for the moment would look something like:

1) Deal---Guyton
2) McCabe---Guyton
3) Feuerbach---Stremlow
4) Stuelke---Mallegni
5) Heiden---Stuelke---Hays

Not sure an additional transfer is likely at this point unless: 1) someone in that group transfers, 2) Iowa is blown away by a player in the portal, or 3) it's for depth instead of a starter.

The above is an 8/9 player rotation (depending on Hays) with Johnson, Levin, Gyamfi, and Houston not included. It'd be hard to add an extra player to that mix without someone losing a role they would expect to have.

This would also answer some of the questions about replacing Lucy's scoring next season. If Kylie can pick up one or two extra (points pg), expected increases by this years freshman (AG,AH, TM and TS) and the infusion of Deal would probably be a good start.

Kylie will likely be the best all-around player on the team next year. Think Josh Dix-like.

She has the athleticism. All she needed was playing time.
This isn't a huge deal, but Heiden will be the best all-around player on the team next year.

The big issue is in the Feuerbach-Dix comparison is Feuerbach has never shot better than 30.6% from three while Dix has never shot worse 40% from three.

To be honest if Feuerbach and McCabe are the starting 2 and 3 I'm somewhat worried about scoring. That was fine this year because Lucy Olsen scored 18 ppg. A similar number would be a big ask from a freshman in Deal.

For comparison, Britt Prince looked great as a freshman and only averaged 13.4. Syla Swords and Olivia Olson at Michigan were better at 16, but they were also two of the best freshman in the country.

Cmon. She has value, but thats a real stretch to say she has that kind of offensive game. Dix is a legit three level scorer.. And I'm not trying to put the pressure on young Addie Deal, BUT her pedigree is right there with CC22' s coming out of high school. A few spots lower recruit, but not much. Three level scorer, who can handle, loves to shoot threes, and loves to pass for the assist. By rep a better defender, (or at least more engaged on defense) then a young CC. Player of the year in possibly one of the best basketball conference in the country. Certainly has played consistently against better competition then CC did in high school. McDonalds AA and National team member. Pardon the pun, but she's the "real Deal". I'll be surprised if she's not the best all around player on next years team. Freshman sure, but she's the highest rated recruit for the womens team after Clark, and they have pretty similar pedigree. Next years B1G freshman of the year......

Yeah. It's a crazy comparison.

I'd agree. Not sure you can start Kylie and McCabe together unless Guyton is struggling..

Good call on the “engaged” I’m convinced if White asks her to be, CC would/will be an excellent defender. I think the verdict is still out on how she will deploy her on defense.

As for Addie, agree 100%, played BIG TIME competition & more defensive minded now than a young CC & I believe Jan will expect her to be.

As for Kylie, as you and I talked awhile back…it’s strange how everyone knows and agrees defense is paramount, yet many still undervalue her. She can literally guard anybody (Juju) 6-2 & under and I’m confident if they were willing to bury her inside most of the game she could shut down this Murray St girl.

She’s not only athletic, but she’s got long arms & is shockingly physical for someone so thin. Her willingness to drive late in the season has also offset her very streaky shooting in my mind.

To me her greatest, Achilles is getting sloppy with the ball from time to time🤷‍♂️

So who will be the best all-around player on the team next year?

Ava maybe if she can stay out of foul trouble?

To be fair, the portal doesn’t open until next week unless your coach has left the program.

Yes indeed. I want to use Heiden in the post, but we need to work on the timing and placement of those passes.
