Kirk, like Hayden is going to stay to long. Both did great things for the University, but just like Woody Hayes at tOSU, everyone has an expiration date on their head coaching gigs. Kirk failed to see the writing on the wall last year because all he could see was they won 10 games. He failed to understand that the four games he lost, 3 were ass kickings and all were lost due to the OC and the QB.

Couldn’t agree more. He thinks you can win by out executing the opponent regardless of scheme or play calling, run the ball and win time of possession to limit the number of offensive series the opponent has.

In the real world, he is doing the exact opposite with his stale, vanilla offense that can’t run the ball and win time of possession which puts the defense in a bad spot game after game.

And please remember that the Fake ID 2015 12-0 season that sealed our fate, was followed up by losing 4 of 7 games.

How much have you contributed?

This fad is going to burn itself up. When the same handful of schools are going to the championship game people will get fed up paying out cash and not getting the results they think they should.

Yep, that fad like spread offense, mobile QB, etc. Think again

The fad of paying players?

The NIL never has and never will be about players selling their likeness. Only idiots believed that.

It's about having a loop hole for signing players for cash payments.

Businesses are just a vehichle through which to funnel and clean the money.

I think in the next few months we will find out if KF cares more about the University and Iowa football or for him the important thing is to keep the Ferentz family business rolling along. I worry he is more invested in the business

I think it is quite obvious what is more important to Kirk (hint: it is not the team).

I think this has been obvious for awhile, especially when he decided to promote BF to QB Coach. He has his 'boss' under his thumb and has full reign to do whatever he wants without account. We can lose and watch the program go off the rails and he will be paid and still the lapdog AD will not do a thing.

I think if he doesn’t do much it will be the start of ruining his goodwill with all the fans

That wasn't a promotion. Most OCs also coach the QBs. It was an anomaly that we had a dedicated QB coach for a few years. Essentially, O'Keefe's return to Iowa was to support BF as a rookie OC. He and Greg Davis held both roles from 1999-2016. Kirk decided to hire another position coach (Hodge) to replace O'Keefe and brought in the summer QB consultant to help complete the transition.

One of Kirks big keys to victory is winning the TOP, and when your offense sucks and constantly goes 3 and out, Iowa is constantly losing the TOP.

Most OCs are former QBs, so no duh they can coach the qb position. BF has zero background at QB as player or coach and in fact has not earned his position.

The obvious smart play for KF would have been to bring in a stud offensive coordinator type that was former QB and put that guy in as QB coach and also as coach for BF/KF since they are chitty offensive minds themselves. The smart play would have also been to jettison at least one of the two lameduck QBs in Petras/Padilla and go to Portal for upgrade. KF did none of those things..and he's getting righfully criticized for his last place offense.

College is now an extension of the NFL. It is no longer important to have academics as a pillar. It’s all about winning/money.

Coaches being fired mid year is now the norm. Keeping coaches for recruits will become less a thing now with NIL deals and players able to transfer without penalty now. It’s truly a free agency.

Iowa football will end up in the bottom third of conference on a regular basis with current coaching staff. JMO
Current HC and OC. No need to throw some really good coaches under the bus. This is not guilt by association.

Well stated! It’s never fun when a successful, long tenured coach starts his downhill slide. Time is cruel. It catches all of us eventually.

TOP is an overrated stat. Only matters when you are trying to shorten the game. Most coaches care more for scores/points per plays or explosive plays runs for 10+ or passes of 20+ (if you have at least one in a drive your chances of points go up exponentially. Me personally you care about the TOP when your D is inferior or has inferior depth which is not the case

The promotion was from OL coach to OC, and I'm not defending BF getting that bump.

Regarding most OCs being former QBs, you're making an assumption. How do you know whether that's really the case? Two of the most famous OCs / QB coaches are Norm Chow and David Cutcliffe. Chow played OL and Cutcliffe never played college football. By all accounts they were excellent at their jobs. Bill Snyder was Hayden's OC / QB coach and he never played QB, either. Nearly all football coaches at some point coach positions they never played.

Yeah, regardless putting Brian, a failed OC that has no QB experience, in that position was a recipe of a coach who answers to no one. We get to eat shit and like it.
