It's been confirmed by Rotowire that he broke his nose in their game with MSU and it's uncertain whether he will travel to their game at Wiscy tomorrow, or whether he'll play if he does make the trip. The angle I saw when he took the hit at MSU looked like a pretty obvious break, but who knows what that means for a healing period. Lots of players have played with a mask after some degree of a broken nose, so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't miss a minute. On the other hand, would they put him at risk if it wouldn't take much of a bump to put him out for a longer period? He's a tough sonofagun but he's also their most important player. Coach Underwood would be wise to tell his squad to keep Davison away from Ayo.

There was some discussion about Ayo continuing to pad his stats after the MSU game was essentially over; I wonder if the broken nose occurred before or after the stat-padding occurred.

I agree that Michigan State plays a physical style of play, but the play that Ayo was injured on was just a basketball play where the defensive player was trying to block Ayo's layup. Ayo lost control of the ball as he was going up for the layup and the defensive player was already in his motion to block the shot. The elbow and Ayo's face just happened to meet at the same space.
The referees saw it differently and the Michigan State player was ejected and the refs called a flagrant 2 on the play, but it still was not intentional in my opinion.....
Illinois fans saw it differently, but then again we all saw the insurrection on the Capital and now most of the Republicans that were there, want us to believe that it was all about nothing, America what a great country....

I dislike everything about Illinois but even thinking that play against Ayo was a “basketball” playand not a blatant cheap shot tells me everything I need to know about your ridiculous political comment.

He already missed the Nebraska game.

I’ve heard concussion as well. There’s a chance his college career is done.

Izzo and his goon squad are bad for college basketball and women in general.
so a better question is who cleared him to go back in the game after all this?

I think all B1G teams should put a hit out on MSU for the ****ing BS we have to put up with. **** Izzo and his "defense". Total BS. Whoever gets them next just pound the **** out of them. Make a point to them and the B1G that this shit can't continue and the ****ing refs need to get a ****ing clue or become football refs. ****ing disgraceful and unacceptable what happened to Ayo.

Elbow to the face totally relatable to politics 🙄🙄

Well, he didn't break his nose so much as that goon Sissoko broke his nose.

Look pretty flagrant to me. He stuck his elbow out towards his head instead of putting his arms straight up to block the shot. Dude should be suspended a couple of games. Scary.

I saw the replay of the play Ayo broke his nose a few times. The ball was stripped from him as Ayo started to go up and it is clear that Sissoko jumped up to block him. Sissoko for some reason closes his eyes in the middle of the jump, maybe because he is anticipating contact and when he opens them again he is already swinging his arms down in an attempt to block the non-existent ball.

Instead he clocks Ayo in a vicious, dangerous way but I think if Ayo still had the ball would have been a tough hard foul. I don't think Sissoko meant to hurt Ayo but instead be an enforcer for his team. All in all it was completely unnecessary IMHO and he deserved the Flagrant 2.

I wish someone in the B10 office would chastise Izzo for teaching his players thug ball like that because I am tired of B10 defense turning into a football game under him.

Aristotle is that you? I hope so there can’t be TWO people on this board that bring silly political analogies into EVERY post on sports. Seek help.

A squirrel in my backyard was eating something and chased away another squirrel when he got too close.
Republicans are evil scum!

Did I do that right?

The political comment was out of place for this forum regardless of the OP's point of view, but thanks for compounding the idiocy.

And what exactly would the "team" expect from their "enforcer"? What does that mean exactly, if not to go in and purposefully hard foul someone. Think The Detroit Bad Boys, or the goon from Louisville that went in specifically to attack Ronnie Lester's knee and knock him out of the final four game.

Sorry...let me explain. The style of play in the B1G sucks ass and it has for years. I just don’t give a flying **** about an Illinois player.

I like college basketball. So when a first team all-American player gets taken out by a buster goon because his coach will do anything to win, I give a shit about that.

I think that sucks, and I think that coach should be called to account.
