I need to get a new mower for my Iowa property.

Down to 3 options. Going traditional tractor style due to the pond damn.

Which is best

JD x350. Has the 21.5 hp Kawasaki
JD Ls170. The Lowe’s version. 24 hp Briggs

Last a Husqvarna Ts248xd. 24 hp Kawasaki

OP:

I'd invest in this.

My understanding is that a John Deere from Lowes is not the same as a John Deere from an actual dealer. Same thing with other brands. In the past I'd heard that MTD makes almost all of the big box store mowers regardless of what name they have on them.

MTD does not make John Deere, That said the 100 series are not the same quality as the 200/300 series mowers, I believe the 100 series are made in Tennessee and they are basically geared towards producing “cheap” mowers to be sold at the box stores at a “competitive” price point.

I'm fairly certain the X350 has power steering, so I'd take that. If you have a lot of trees to mow around, I'd buy a JD X394 all wheel steer.

I think you would be fine with the JD350 or the Husqvarna.

I'm biased on JD

The x350 will cost $4300 and the Husqvarna will be $3600

Is it worth the extra money?

IMO the JD is a step above the Husqvarna in regard to frame quality and deck quality. Both are good mowers. The JD is a bit more “heavy duty” again IMO. I would say the larger the acreage the more I would lean towards the J.D.

That said, this article by PM links to a Cub Cadet rider for $2500 but, I watched a bunch of Chickanic videos and she outlines things to watch for if you must go to a big box store. Also says just buy used and throw some money into repairing if you can find a reliable mechanic.

If you have a lot of property, a ZT will save a ton of time as they are so much faster. Faster around obstacles as well.
