How 'bout just enabling Medicare/Medicaid to negotiate drug pricing directly with insurers and pharmaceuticals companies? Like other countries already can do, and have prices fractions of what we pay here? That'd solve 2 things:

  1. It'd cut costs substantially for Medicare/Medicaid patients, and US taxpayers
  2. It'd eliminate the effective 'subsidy' that US taxpayers provide to other countries that get those drugs cheap, so that all the 'profits' can be reaped from US sales, while those countries pay an 'base cost' amount.

Agreed. Spiro’s last point is really stating the work around in pricing by letting Canada and Europe do the negotiations for us. Weak.
