Here's an interesting Constitutional impeachment nugget:

Per the Constitution, anything in the Articles of Impeachment cannot be "pardoned" upon leaving office; thus, even if the Senate doesn't vote to remove Trump from office, the charges against him will stand, unpardonable by any subsequent President. Thus, he'll either die in office, untried and unconvicted, or he'd eventually end up in jail, tried on the offenses of bribery, obstruction of justice, campaign finance violations, etc.

Of course, if Barr remains AG I doubt we'd see anyone pursuing charges, but it does appear DOJ has been lining this stuff up.

This is another aspect to the "impeach him anyway" argument, as it literally sets up his crimes for prosecution, for good. Along with any co-conspirators.

And this is why Nixon opted to step down, because absent formal impeachment, he WAS pardonable by Ford.
