The further along we get, the more it becomes clear that Mattis, Kelley and McMaster were doing a pretty darned good job of keeping him under control...as shocking as that sounds.

What continues to make sense is Trump (although a crook) is basically an "absentee landlord", with random power players within the GOP able to do what they want, so long as they have his attention. E.g. McConnell and his judiciary seats. Budget-busting tax cuts. Etc.

They all like having Trump playing the Road Show, because they can all push their own agendas w/ no real leadership on anything. And they think they can keep maneuvering him/controlling him to keep that gravy train running for them.

Except when burps like abandoning the Kurds happens, and signing off on an Iranian general's assassination....and now perhaps getting involved with essentially 'organized crime' here; there's still a push to cover that up to keep the gravy train running, but Parnas getting arrested has complicated that - because no one will stick their neck out for him now. So Parnas is totally self-preserving here. And consistent with the GOP not wanting any witnesses.

Essentially, Trump's criming has bubbled up to where it's a real problem for them, and their ability to push/operate their own agendas. How do they push this under the rug and keep the status quo going for themselves?
