The Bugeaters doubled us in every statistical category except for turn-overs and final score. If they would have adjusted their defense after Geer's (sp) targeting ejection which led to two TD's and not allowed Armstrong to throw passes over 10-15 yards, the game probably would have been different. Also, remember their terrible call on fourth and one. Armstrong was throwing accurate bullets with his short passes. A decent coach would have had him running twice as much as he did.

The Hawks need to put a lot of work on their offense this week.

Maybe we played the way we played because we knew their coaches would have Armstrong run half as much as he should have, and would abandon the short, accurate passes.

Also, I thought you were going to finish with "...and keep reaching for the stars." - Casey Kasem

The Hawks played only their second game this year with a somewhat less than satisfactory offensive performance. However, part of a team effort, including good coaching, is to do just enough to beat the team you are playing. They played conservative in bad conditions and banked on an undisciplined Nebby team to make mistakes. It paid off. The plan will be very different for our next opponent in an indoor field.

And it was extremely cold. And windy. Just think how bad CJ must have been hurting.

Why should we keep our feet on the ground again? Yes, MSU could beat us but we have about a 50/50 (or maybe slightly better) chance to be in the playoffs. Something nobody thought possible.

Do you really think the Hawks will favored against MSU ?

My game plan is for CJB to throw for 300 yds, 2 tds, run for 60 yds, 1 td. Tailbacks run for a total of 250 yds, 2 tds. And for King to put glue on his gloves so he catches the jump balls, and for Mabin to not get beat. Jewell forces and recovers a fumble.

We converted no 3rd downs, they out gained us by nearly 200 yards and had the ball for damn near a quarter more than us.

What does it say that we were never in jeopardy of losing that game? We controlled it from start to finish.

They get the stat trophy. We get the game trophy, a chance to play for the B1G title and a chance to play for a national title.

12-0 and people still bitching. What a shock! :):):):):)

Iowa played one of its worst games all season and was still control the entire game and beat Nebraska by 8, at home. Either Nebraska is really bad or Iowa is very good.

We will have to play a MUCH better game against MSU than we did against Debbie to win. MSU's defense is amazing and with a healthy Connor Cook, they will be very tough to beat. My feet are firmly planted on the ground but I can still reach for the stars.

MSU will be a tough game. I was hoping for Michigan because I had a fail proof plan for success I was going to call in to the coaching staff.

Forget feet on the ground. I am an "experienced" Iowa fan (aka old) and this has never happened before.

Our Hawkeyes are flawed. They are tired, beat up and have some weaknesses. But they will show up in Indy and give it every thing they have to pull out a win.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

I just hope that CJ isn't late for any meetings this week!

I get so tired of all of the if's .....if Neby this if Neby that. How about the if's on the other side of the ball. If King hadn't fumbled the punt (led to a Neby touchdown). What if our bench didn't have that call against them because of a missed call by the officials? What if The hawks would have converted on a couple of 3rd downs .......what if King would not have dropped what would have been another interception? Come on people .....The if's are part of the game both teams can say if we would have what ever. In the end Iowa won because as a team they played better....GO HAWKS!

MSU is peaking right now and playing great football. They have arguably the #1 QB in next year's NFL draft (assuming a healthy shoulder).

We will have to play our best game of the season to beat them. We have done a great job of managing games to win recently but have not played a dominant game since NW. We are also banged up and tired so we are limping to the finish line.

Let's hope we can pull it together this week. The only way we win is to beat them in the trenches on both sides of the ball. That's where it starts and ends.

It wasn't a pretty game, but the weather clearly contributed a lot to that, much like the Wisconsin game. The stats are a bit disconcerting, but as noted above, you can wonder about the "ifs" until the cows come home. Much of the reason for our limited offensive production was the score -- we led throughout and got conservative in the second half to shorten the game. Given the circumstances, I can't say I disagree with that strategy, and it worked. NE never really threatened to take the lead in the second half. So I'll take an ugly win any day.

As for MSU, yes, they're playing well and will be a very tough challenge. That said, I like how this game sets up. We'll be the underdog despite going 12-0 for the first time in school history and despite being one of only two undefeated teams in D1 football. Amazing that we'll still be the underdog, but it's great -- the Hawks will have an extra chip on their shoulders. Yes, MSU is very talented, but we match up better against pro-style offenses, and Cook isn't very mobile, which also helps us. Furthermore, Cook isn't 100% with the shoulder, and he's potentially one big hit from heading to the bench -- not that I'd wish injury on him, but he could very easily aggravate the shoulder injury and be unable to play effectively. So overall, I like the match-up. No, it won't be easy, but this is a game we absolutely can win. I wouldn't have been nearly as optimistic if we were going against tOSU, who is arguably playing as well as anyone in the nation and has a scheme and talent level that would pose massive problems for our defense.

Good point. I forgot how bad the conditions were because my family room was quite cozy. With all of CJ's injuries and a short week, he must have felt pretty sore out there. I'm sure there were some throws he might have made under better conditions.

Bet he is looking forward to Lucas Oil Stadium.

This. No reason not to be happy. At least we won against Nebbie, which is more than our opponent can say.

Cook is an NFL-caliber talent. That said, I would rather have him play against us than a zone-read QB. Those really make me nervous.
MSU's pass defense stats are not really that good. *If* CJ has enough time to throw, I expect some good success in the passing game. Run game, too, but maybe in the 2nd half a la against Northwestern, Illinois

You sound like every Nebraska fan I have talked to the last two days. But but but we had twice as many yards....

The difference was big plays and turnovers. We made the big plays (Canzeri TDs) and we capitalized on Nebraska turnovers.

The rest of the stats don't matter, because they were playing catch-up the whole game. I agree, our offense was flat in terms of controlling the clock and 3rd downs, but when you're ripping off a couple big play TDs, you still end up with a W. That tipped ball interception and 5 yd run was a killer for Nebraska.

If???? Whatever. I am enjoying the crap out of this and gearing up for a great battle next week. "IF" Michigan St out gains us next week and we win will we be told again to not feel good? If you are not enjoying this and in fact not over the fecking moon about it, sadly that is your loss.

Go Hawks!!!!

3 touchdown drives, about 7 plays total. There is the discrepancy on the stats. Many busker drives we stopped them cold on 1st down. All those plays and stats they still only had 1 good td drive.

Michigan States Defense rose up against Ohio State, much to my surprise I assure you (and delight!). That seems to be more of an anomaly than a trend based on their entire season. And Cook for sure is a fine QB, but he won't be the only fine QB playing in this game. Furthermore, as "banged up" as CJ has been, he hasn't missed an entire game like Cook did not that long ago.

If I'm Phil Parker I bring the farm early and often against Cook and see how his shoulder holds up banging off the Lucas Oil Stadium turf. I'd suggest bringing Jewell and Lomax......................for starters. Have King follow their best guy and let the chips fall where they may.

But then again, this is Iowa Football. I would expect nothing like that to happen, so expect bend and hopefully not break.

I'm sure they will blitz on 3rd and long when we get them in that situation. They will get their chance to knock him down a few times.

With your feet on the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
But there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind?
