In your opinion, what does it mean to lead a fulfilling life? Would your opinion today be the same as 20 years ago?

Are you satisfied with how you have lived your life?

It seems your thread title should be "Life" instead of "Death." :)

For me, it means having my own family (I was adopted so having a genetic reflection of me was important), spending quality time with family, and making enough money to have a comfortable life, interesting travel, paid for education for my kids, and a head start/legacy for my children. Have done or I am on track for all of that, so yes, I am satisfied.

We all end up in the same place. Humans are naturally goal oriented. An important piece of a good life to me is appreciating the moment you occupy. And, also to remember you can do nothing about the past, a little about the present and a lot about the future. The life you live is a summation of every little decision made.

Life is transient. So… on a daily basis, I try to make decisions I can be proud of, to be a good human. To improve the probability of short and long term function, I exercise and eat well. I try to engage a hobby every day. I like skilled hobbies. So, I play music. I run or workout daily. I try to be kind to my wife and children, those who work for me and with me, and to my fellow humans.

Meaning I think ultimately is in the moment. I don’t think legacy matters. I don’t care who shows up to my funeral or if I have one. I want to, in the moment, live well.

I like to think so. Been in my a career for about 2 decades now. Kids are getting older but have been provided for their whole existence. Have mistakes been made? Absolutely. Thankfully I've learned from those mistakes rather than repeating them.

I'd call it successful to this point.

This is a good question....

I think it is truly impossible to accurately answer or define as every person wants (and ultimately needs) different things in life. Millions upon millions of correct answers probably...

BUT I think a good parameter in determining whether you had a good life or a bad life would be: Will anybody miss you when you are gone?

If the answer is YES, then it means you treated people how they should be treated and you at least had some beneficial impact on their lives (whether it be friends or family...down to a single person or many people) and then if the answer is NO, then you were probably a dick and made everything and everyone around you worse off with your presence.

That is a really well thought out response Banditking. Thank you. I try to live much the same way. At times it can be hard to forgive myself for all the crappy things I have done, and decisions I have made. But I am trying.

Well said JustSayOV. I totally agree that this is a very personal question, and I could get a thousand responses, each with their own ideal.

Most of us have real challenges to overcome. That is the success of life.

For me I’ve overcome challenges enough to have a deep close relationship with my wife of decades. Have raised successful kids and have raised 2 humans not biologically related who were refugees and doing quite well as young adults.

I’m not rich not perfect. Am experience life in a good way after and continuing to overcome a huge challenge.

currently ok but many regrets over past. poor choices at almost big fork. joke though is that i still don't know whether i would necessarily do things any differently coz maybe i end up a shittier person today

@Banditking's post is kickass

I think the fact that you can reflect on those choices is a pretty big indicator you have done very well desi.

Fulfilling, to me, is about happiness.

20 years ago I was 15 and didn't really think about "life" other than sports and school. Things are a lot different now. I travel the world when I can and do things simply for the pleasure and happiness it brings and for the memories I'll always carry with me. At 15 those thoughts never really entered my mind.
