My counterpoint. College basketball is about half as popular as it was in the 1980's. And now that television revenues are the paycheck? Wouldn't it make sense to present a product people could trust? Meanwhile, almost everyone loves a good scandal, as long as the villain gets fried in the end.
Well, not just the end but from toe to tip of the head. But they can start with the end!
If NCAA basketball wants to keep the market it has, and bring back the market it has lost, they must recognize that at least 100 of the 350 or so Division One schools want to feel like they have a chance.
I say, for every Pitino, Brown, Calipari, Boheim, Williams that the NCAA is willing to fry, and I mean fry, pluck 'em, gut 'em, and drop 'em in Crisco, the cash rewards will come.
Take a lesson from the old commercial. "Where's the beef?" NCAA, your getting cheap on the quality of the product. Not good business.
