Can you get a fake name uiowa.edu acct?

Could I get one as an alum? We didnt have them back when I was in school in the 80's. Do you get to keep it after you graduate?

You can sign up with ANY email address. They don't verify it. Which is exactly why "fake-name" is in there, John Doee, etc.

No, I mean with the UI.

Wouldnt you use a hotmail or other type of anonymous account for something like this? Don't you need an actual e-mail to communicate with others on there?

There are plenty of places where you register with an email address and then use the service's interface to message. If the email isn't really necessary for things other than recovering passwords, the service may not validate emails, which means you can sign up with literally anything with an @ and a domain structure.

To your point, though, were I to use some service like this, I'd definitely go make a free email account that I'd then use for only this purpose. Not everyone thinks these things through, though.

Found this thread the other night when the news broke about the data dump. People are posting requests for domains to be searched for. For the record, I didn't request the uiowa addresses.

Ol' Doodle didn't even know this Ashley Morgan site existed until the big hacking story broke a few weeks back, so forgive Doodle if he doesn't totally understand how it works.......but the main question Doodle has is...could it be possible on this site (or ones like it if there are others) to register or create a login or whatever with someone else's e-mail....you know, just to eff with them?

Yes, it appears that they didn't validate the email addresses, so you could sign up with any properly constructed email address under the sun.....though if you don't have access to that email account, you wouldn't be able to recover passwords or use those kinds of features.

Am I the only one who finds this whole thing disturbing. I think this is a really poor reflection on our society. I think it is absolutely wrong to be posting this stuff. I guess I can understand the curiosity of it all, but there are real people who may have their lives ruined because of this. First of all, even if they were on the website, you don't know that they were cheating on their spouse. Second, it wasn't illegal in any way. Finally, EVERY man in the world has done something he isn't proud of. I have gone to some interesting websites over the years and wouldn't be happy if the whole world knew about it. Would you want the world to have access to your web browsing history? That's where this is leading, it seems.

You will hear the argument, "if you don't want to get caught, don't do it", but that is really BS. I wouldn't want the world to see me having sex with my wife (tapes have been destroyed, don't even ask), so should I not do that? I certainly don't want to feel like the world is looking over my shoulder every minute of the day, do you?
