Lombardi got a raw deal.

Nobody is bashing Wriedt because the ref made a bad call(s). They are bashing him because he acted like a punk after the match...a match that he should have lost if not for the aforementioned bad call.

If you put a red N on his singlet he would have fit in perfectly In CHA last weekend. Oh wait, looks like he will fit in perfectly with Manning and that bunch.
Sent a text to a friend today asking if he was the "personal Coach" for a kid that won state yesterday for the town he resides in now. He said "nope, the kid is a punk, I was hoping he'd lose". Then he explained some of the reasons why he thought that way against a kid for the "home team". (And no it wasn't Wriedt or his school)

I didn't agree with the call but those of you taking shots at Wriedt are losers. The kid just won his 2nd state title over a guy he split matches with this year of course he is going to celebrate.

He didn't make the calls he just wrestled.

Making the sign that he broke him and the end of the match was piss poor sportsmanship. I am not a Lombardi fan, but for just getting hosed like he did he held his head high and took it. Kudos to him

Agree. Our kids go to school with Rocky, and although I'm not an MSU fan, I'm a Lombardi fan. Seems like a really nice kid, based on everything I've heard and seen. We've watched him compete for several years now and he's always shown good sportsmanship on the football field.

Last night was truly impressive, IMO. He even seemed to be talking to the ref who'd just stolen his state championship right after the match, and he seemed to keep his cool and even carry on some conversation with him. Many wrestlers in that position would have responded poorly, and some would have completely lost it. I was extremely impressed with Rocky's reaction. Showed some serious maturity.

Amazing that the ref of the Lombardi match could make it down to Stillwater to ref the Heil-Gulibon match - or was that a different ref set on deciding the outcome of the match?

Yeah, I don't think I could of shook the hand of the ref who just stole a state championship from me. I fear I may have said something that would of cost a team point.

The videos of the controversial calls are now posted on the front page of Flo. I was not really in to this thread because I didn't see it, don't know the kids involved and figured that the calls were open for interpretation, where the ref made one call and fans of Lombardi saw something different....I was wrong, this kid got jobbed.

Stalling, are you kidding me? Talk about the ref wanting to be the star of the show. Poor judgement and, without knowing the official personally or his qualifications, he should not be officiating these type of important matches for quite some time. All the hard work this kid put in to accomplish his dreams and in the end he is cheated out of them. Tough break.

Your description is accurate, and it's all the more reason to be impressed by Rocky's reaction, which was 100% class. It's great that he's been getting so much positive press about it (WHO-TV in DSM did a feature on the match, focusing mainly on Rocky's poise in the face of disappointment). All Iowans can be proud of how Rocky handled the situation.

No doubt about it, the kid is all class. I would have gone Thunder Lips on that ref. "It's all fake meatball!"

Handled with class but I feel TERRIBLE for him. I think the worst part of the deal is Wreidt make the jesters of him breaking. Sad that he ended his career that way....

EDIT: In honor of the wrestling board, I've revised the above percentage.

I saw the bout on Flo and to say I was shocked is an understatement! That he is ranked that high (7th) nationally is incredible considering his first love appears to be football. You have to be a fan of his and wish him the best of luck going on to play FB at MSU.

Sure will be following his career.

Flat out "wheenie" of an official doing his best to be #1 jerk.

Yes, but Wreidt's gesture reflects poorly only on Wreidt. Anyone following this sport now thinks he was gifted a state championship he didn't deserve and that he is a poor sportsman. No one thinks Lombardi was broken and everyone will remember how he got royally hosed.
