Long time TV newsman Hugh Downs has died

I mostly remember him from 20/20, but he had a lengthy career for multiple networks, and covered some of the most important events of the 1960s-2000.

He was on when 20/20 actually was worth watching and much like 60 minutes had news stories. His reputation took a hit when he did an expose on "Buckwheat" from the Lil' Rascals. The real wheat was dead but he interviewed an imposter posing as the wheat. Oops.

Hugh Downs was a class act who was
married to his wife Ruth for 73 years.
She died 3 years ago at age 95. His
marital faithfulness despite being in
the entertainment business.is to be
respected.

next-door neighbor. He was always
welcome in your home. His 20-20
programs with Barbara Walters were
a class act. He was humble and had
no ego to be stroked.
